BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met here Monday with President of the National Assembly of Mali Dioncounda Traore and the two sides pledged to enhance parliamentary exchanges.Wu, chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, welcomed his counterpart at the Great Hall of People in Beijing.Wu said Mali was one of the first countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic ties with China and bilateral relations between the two countries have endured various tests over the years.The sustainable development of bilateral ties has its basis in political mutual respect and mutual economic benefit, Wu said.He said Chinese President Hu Jintao's successful visit to Mali last year pushed bilateral relations to a new high.This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.Expressing hope to work with Mali to deepen friendship and expand cooperation, Wu said China's National People's Congress attaches great importance to exchanges with the Malian National Assembly.Traore said Mali and China have traditional friendship and Mali admires China's national solidarity, social harmony and rapid economic growth.Mali will further develop bilateral ties between the two countries and their parliaments, Traore said.He reiterated Mali's strict observance of the one-China policy. WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's growth is projected to average 10.5 percent in 2010 and 9.6 percent in 2011, driven by domestic demand, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in a report Wednesday.The Washington-based international lending agency made the projection for the annual fall meetings this weekend of the 187-nation IMF and its sister lending organization, the World Bank."The slight moderation in recent activity is expected to continue through 2011 in light of tighter quantitative limits on credit growth, measures to cool off the property market and limit bank exposure to this, and the planned unwinding of fiscal stimulus in 2011," the IMF said in its report.The report said this year's sustained growth in retail sales and industrial production confirms that private sector activity has advanced beyond the lift from government stimulus."On average over 2010-11, private domestic demand is poised to contribute two-thirds of near term growth, and government activity about one third, whereas the contribution from net exports will be close to zero," the report said.Despite the robustness in domestic demand, the pickup in inflation in 2010 reflected mainly higher food prices rather than core inflation, the report said.The report said China's increasingly wide trading network is driving growth in numerous economies, especially commodity exporters.The report said Asia's medium-term growth depends on the rebalancing of drivers of growth -- greater reliance should be put on domestic markets instead of foreign demand.The report said such a rebalancing in China, the world's second largest economy, is critical to enhance the role of household consumption in domestic growth.The report also recommended that China implement reforms to health care, education, and pension systems to enhance the social safety net.

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China shut down 1,355 small coal mines with a total production capacity of 125.19 million tonnes by the end of September as part of efforts to restructure its mining industry, the National Energy Administration (NEA) said Thursday.The latest figures indicate that the NEA had surpassed its annual target of eliminating 121.67 million tonnes of outdated production capacity this year.According to the NEA, 1,539 small and dangerous coal mines with 121.67 million tonnes of outdated capacity had to be closed in China this year to meet the country's requirement for preventing deadly accidents and reducing carbon dioxide emissions and pollution.The energy watchdog also said it would strengthen inspection on small coal mines for the rest of the year and ensure that the mining restructuring plan be completed as scheduled this year.China has long relied on coal to fuel its rapid economic growth. About three-fourths of its electricity is generated from coal-fired power stations, according to the NEA.

TOKYO, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Visiting China's special representative on Korean Peninsula affairs Wu Dawei said Tuesday that Beijing plans to put forward fresh measures to resume the stalled six-party talks at an early date.Wu made the comment to reporters after meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, but he did not elaborate on what measures China will propose to bring Pyongyang back to the negotiation, which have been suspended since December 2009.Wu, who chairs the six-party talks involving Democratic People' s Republic of Korea and South Korea, China, Japan, Russia and the United States, said China needs to discuss the proposal with these member states and wants to hear their views about it.The Chinese envoy held talks with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku after meeting with Okada.The Japanese side agreed with China that the stability and peace of the Korean Peninsula are in the interest of all parties concerned, and vowed to continue push forward the six-party talks. Both sides said they will work to restart the stalled negotiation as soon as possible.Wu arrived in Tokyo on Saturday for a four-day visit to Japan after visiting Pyongyang and Seoul.
