SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — New numbers show almost 40% of people who test positive for COVID-19 in San Diego County are between the ages of 20 and 39.As more businesses begin to open up, more Californians are testing positive for the coronavirus."It really is an alarming trend," Dr. Abisola Olulade, family medicine doctor at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, said.It is a trend affecting everyone, but most noticeably for younger adults between 20 and 39.RELATED: Gov. Gavin Newsom warns counties to enforce coronavirus precautions"We are seeing an increase in the total number of cases with people that are getting younger and younger," Governor Gavin Newsom said in his daily address Wednesday.At the early onset of the pandemic, health officials stressed the importance of the elderly population to take heed. But new numbers show the virus does not discriminate."There is a sense that a lot of young people are, well, you're young, and so you feel a little bit more invincible. "We are not immune to the effects of this virus."Younger folks are often the first to venture out to newly reopened businesses or have participated in recent large gatherings like the protests. This is in comparison to older folks, who often continue to stay indoors.The problem is this. Young people who feel no symptoms likely will not be hospitalized. WASH your hands. And WATCH your distance," Dr. Olulade said. "We all have a social and moral obligation to protect the health of others, so I hope that everyone takes that on as a personal responsibility."Dr. Olulade also adds that there is an increasing number of cases of young people who never knew they had underlying conditions until they got tested for COVID-19, and now they're fighting for their lives. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a reported bank robbery suspect in the Mission Valley area late Friday.A bank robbery was reported at the US Bank location at Frazee Road just before 5 p.m., according to San Diego Police. At one point, SWAT officers were called in to assist.SDPD initially reported that shots were fired inside the bank based on accounts from "scared employees" but later confirmed no shots had been fired. Police are currently searching for a suspect. No injuries have been immediately reported. The building was reportedly locked down as police searched.The suspected was described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, wearing a black mask or bandana, black hooded shirt, black pants, tan backpack armed with a handgun. 751

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Months after one of San Diego’s biggest employers was said to be looking to add up to 1,000 jobs, General Dynamics NASSCO instead announced layoffs.In April, NASSCO held a job fair, claiming the company was looking to add up to 1,000 jobs. Robert Godinez, head of the Boilermakers Union Local 1998, says the shipbuilder didn’t hire close to that number.In total, NASSCO notified nearly 1,500 workers that they could be out of a job in September. The shipbuilder told 10News it expects to let go of closer to 350 workers.The layoffs are in relation to a dry dock accident in July that damaged facilities.One of the company’s employees, Glicerio Cortez, says he doesn’t know exactly what happened in July, but he heard of the damage through coworkers. “They say that they heard like a, something like a bomb, something strong and then the water came all the way to the dry dock,” said Cortez.RELATED: NASSCO delivers layoff notices to 1,500 workersVideo captured by Sky10 shows water flooding the dry dock as debris filled the area. Luckily, no one was injured.The July incident isn’t the only reason for the layoffs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Neighbors in Scripps Ranch are on edge after a series of break-ins over the course of a week at the beginning of March.Residents in the area reported five break-ins or attempted break-ins to the Scripps Ranch Civic Association's Neighborhood Watch from March 9 to March 16.During one of the burglaries on the 11800 block of Charmaine Way, suspects shattered a sliding glass door and were able to take jewelry and electronics.RELATED: Burglar squeezes past security system, raids homeDuring another break-in, it appears the suspect was unable to get into the home, according to the neighborhood watch. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have released pictures of a man accused of shooting and killing a 27-year-old man in the Midway District in late February.Police say Ernesto Castallenos Martinez, 41, shot and killed Alexander Mazin in a parking lot behind the 24 Hour Fitness on the 3600 block of Midway Drive.Following the shooting, police were led to the intersection of 30th Street and Upas Street where an hours-long standoff took place.RELATED: Police identify Midway District shooting victim, suspect of North Park standoff?After SWAT teams entered an apartment in the area, they didn’t find Martinez.
