EL PASO, Texas - A cathedral in El Paso was vandalized while the church was open and available for prayer Tuesday morning.The Diocese of El Paso says a suspect came into the sanctuary at St. Patrick Cathedral around 10 a.m. and destroyed an almost 90-year-old statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was located in the center behind the main altar.“I am in shock and we at the Cathedral are heartbroken over such an unexpected situation,” said The Rector of St. Patrick Cathedral, Fr. Trini Fuentes.The suspect has been detained by the El Paso Police Department, officials said.“This statue is one of my favorite representations of Jesus—his arms open wide in welcome, his heart aflame with love for us. I would often take inspiration from this image as I prepared for Mass,” said Bishop Seitz. “As sad as I am to see a statue attacked and destroyed, I am grateful that it was not a living person. But a statue, particularly this statue, concretizes and connects us to persons and ideals that are not visible to our eyes. They reveal to us realities that are close to us, but unseen."Officers are currently continuing their investigation into the vandalism.“At this point we do not know anything about the person who carried out this assault, but he certainly must be a person who is greatly disturbed to have attacked this peaceful place in our city and this image of the King of Peace. I hope this might be the impetus for him to receive the help he needs. El Cajon Police continue to search for a wanted suspect while an officer recovers from being dragged down a road by a car. The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old David Pangilinan of Guam. A journalist in Guam said as soon as the news hit on the island that Pangilinan was wanted, everyone instantly recognized the suspect.Related: El Cajon police ID suspect who dragged officer with car“His picture was there and I recognized him right away. He’s a school mate of mine back in elementary and middle school,” said Troy Torres. “Mr. Pangilinan’s family is very well known, a very nice family that has built up businesses a lot over the years, has contributed a lot to the community so his name does stand out,” he said, saying most people on the small island have heard of the family so this news has sparked attention across the island.A press release from El Cajon police said Pangilinan is the suspect in a case that started when an officer stopped to check on an SUV parked illegally and blocking traffic on Washington Avenue in El Cajon. He found a sleeping man and woman inside the car that was later determined to be a rental.The male driver of the car first tried to give false identification then started to put it into gear, so the officer tried to stop him. The officer got trapped in the car and was dragged down the road, then hit by another car. The SUV drove away and was deserted nearby, with the man and woman nowhere to be found. They are still on the loose and El Cajon police are asking for the public to report any information on their whereabouts.The officer is in critical condition as of Monday.A police officer in Guam said they’re on high alert and would know if he tried to return to the island because everyone who lands at the airport in Guam is required to go to a mandatory quarantine facility for six days. EL CENTRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The four Marines who died in a Marine Corps helicopter crash during a training mission in El Centro Tuesday have been identified.Military officials say Capt. Samuel A. Schultz, 28, of Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania; First Lt. Samuel D. Phillips, 27, of Pinehurst, North Carolina; Gunnery Sgt. Derik Holley, 33, of Dayton, Ohio; and Lance Cpl. Taylor J. Conrad, 24, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, all died in the crash.According to officials, the CH-53E Stallion helicopter took off from the Strategic Expeditionary Landing Field at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms to conduct squadron training.RELATED:  678

DICKSON, Tenn. — Animal rescue officials said dogs found with signs of abuse and neglect belonged to the family of missing 5-year-old Joe Clyde Daniels.Two dogs were found left on a stranger’s property on Garners Creek Road last Sunday night, three days before Joe Clyde was reported missing by his parents.The Dickson County Humane Society and TCB Kennels Boarding & Rescue have been working to give the dogs proper care. “It was pretty sad,” said DCHS General Manager Vivienne Akhdary. “They were very skinny. They were covered in fleas and ticks and were very scared. The dogs were not well taken care of, and behavior shows definite signs of abuse.”“They just pulled over and dropped them off,” said TCB Kennels Boarding & Rescue Founder Trisha Davis.Davis has been taking care of the dogs because the animal shelter is full. The homeowner who found them first contacted her.“They’re actually still searching for the property where the dogs were dropped off,” added Davis.They said it was confirmed the dogs belonged to the Daniels family by relatives and neighbors.The homeowner lived nine miles away from the Daniels. More than a week later, the dogs, now named Joey and Clyde to honor the 5-year-old boy, have been doing better and hope to find a more permanent home soon. Davis said no one has claimed the dogs back. The body of Joe Clyde has not been found, but the search continued one week later.His father, Joseph Daniels, was charged with one count of criminal homicide after he confessed to allegedly beating his son to death and disposing of his body in a rural and remote location.His mother, Krystal Daniels, was later arrested for child neglect or endangerment after she admitted to being at the house when her son died and failed to report the abuse or alleged homicide despite multiple opportunities, according to court documents. Belle Daniels, Joe’s grandmother, told Scripps station WTVF in Nashville she does not know why her son would commit the alleged crime.Akhdary said she cannot help but feel uneasy of what could have gone on behind closed doors.“The parents did not take care of their kids. I don’t think they spent a lot of time taking good care of the dogs.”To help the shelter and donate to the dogs’ cause, visit the Humane Society of Dickson County online.WTVF stopped at the family's house this week, but they declined to do an interview. 2442

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- The City of El Cajon is hoping someone comes forward to claim a tortoise found traveling the city's sidewalks Thursday afternoon. According to a post of the city's Facebook page, paramedics came across the "patient" slowly making its way down the sidewalk near Emerald and Washington Streets. The city said jokingly that the creature may be suffering a little "shell shock."The tortoise was taken to the El Cajon Animal Shelter to be checked out and held until the owner comes forward. Check out the full Facebook post below:  581
