United Airlines is putting together strong measures when it comes to safe air travel during COVID-19.On Wednesday, the company announced that customers must wear masks while at the airport or they could risk being "banned from flying." Customers would only be banned while the mask requirement is in place."The most important thing any of us can do to slow the spread of the coronavirus is to simply wear a mask when we're around other people," said United's Chief Executive Officer, Scott Kirby in a news release. Tumblr, a popular blog service owned and operated by Yahoo, says it will ban "adult content" from its site on Dec. 17.The decision comes just weeks after the Tumblr app was temporarily removed from Apple's App Store after child pornography was found on the site. Tumblr said in a statement to The Verge that the decision to ban adult content did not stem from that incident.Tumblr's new policy bans "explicit sexual content" and most instances of nudity. The site added that nudity "found in art," as well as nudity in the context of health-related situations and in the context of political protest or newsworthy events would still be permitted.Tumblr also says that written erotica will still be permitted on the site.After Dec. 17, any explicit content flagged by algorithms will be hidden from public view but not deleted from the site. Utah officials suspended the license of a mortuary in South Salt Lake after reports of employees stealing jewelry from bodies, conducting cremations without identification and leaving bodies outside refrigerators.On Thursday, the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing released an emergency order suspending the licenses of the Carver Mortuary Service and funeral directors Tanner Carver and Shane Westmoreland.The directors "engaged in conduct which constitutes gross incompetence, gross negligence or a pattern of incompetency," the report stated.But Westmoreland dismissed the claims as being from "disgruntled" former employees."They're making all sorts of claims that are simply not true," Westmoreland told KSL. "There's never been a body here that's been treated with disrespect," he said. "There's never anything that's been stolen."After receiving a license in February 2008, the funeral home provided services for Intermountain Medical Center, Utah's Office of the Medical Examiner and Salt Lake County, according to the report.Two former employees hired at the mortuary earlier this year testified before state regulators, according to the report.Robert Price said he did not hold a license when he was hired as a removal assistant in February. His duties included removing deceased people from various locations, performing cremations and sewing together an autopsy patient.According to the order from the state licensing agency, he said he witnessed the funeral directors violating ethical cremation practices, including cremating infant remains with deceased adults at the same time.This "occurred on a regular basis" during his employment, Price told regulators.Price also reported the cremation retort was not fully emptied after use, and unidentified ashes were thrown away.Although the mortuary kept a cremation log, Price said the log was often incomplete. Cremated persons were sometimes unidentified or missing paperwork authorizing cremation, according to his testimony.Employees also separated "gold and precious metals" from human remains, selling the metals and keeping the "significant" profits, according to the order from the state licensing division.The second employee, Erin Christensen, also did not hold a license when he was hired as a removal assistant in March, according to the order. He was fired from the mortuary in August, the report noted.He testified refrigerators containing bodies was often full, and unembalmed bodies were left outside of the refrigerators for periods of a day or longer.The embalming room was also unsanitary, according to the report, and appliances and services were not cleaned regularly.Both former employees said taking jewelry, watches and rings from bodies was a common practice at the mortuary. Christensen testified he had seen employees wearing the items, the state report said.The funeral directors failed to provide records state inspectors requested from the mortuary, the report stated."The respondents have failed to comply with the ethical standards of the profession that require all deceased persons to be treated with the highest respect and dignity," the report concluded.State officials will hold a formal hearing to decide the final disciplinary action for the mortuary and its operators.Westmoreland believes the company will be vindicated."Once we do explain all these things, I'm confident that they will grant the license back," he said. 3451

VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) - A major San Diego County horse rescue is under fire for how it handles its horses and donations. The founder of Valley Center’s HiCaliber Horse Rescue is accused, in part, of raising thousands of dollars to rescue horses from slaughter, only to euthanize them by gunshot.The controversial nonprofit was just investigated by county officials and now state officials are looking into it.Michelle Cochran founded and runs the rescue, which has more than 150 horses on its property. She is the self-described “bad girl of rescue”, an edgy, foul-mouthed woman with purple streaks in her hair and facial piercings.Her rescue has more than 50,000 followers on Facebook. It’s where she posts videos of her trips to horse auctions, where she begs for money to buy livestock that she says would otherwise be shipped to slaughterhouses in Mexico. She also posts photos of malnourished and injured horses she says she hopes to rescue.Once donations come in, she and her volunteers and the purchased horses return to the Valley Center property. Some of the horses get rehabilitated. Some get shot.“You’re accused of buying horses that can’t be saved, raising money to save them and then shooting them,” we tell Cochran.She responds, “It costs money to save them. It costs money to diagnose them. It costs money to haul them. It costs money to get their [bodies] removed.”She tells us she knows that some of the horses will be euthanized when she purchases them. She calls them “compassion pulls”, horses she says are too sick to rehabilitate, but deserve a more dignified death than slaughter.Her veterinarian is Dr. William Talbot.He explains, “It’s not a pleasant thing but it is done properly and it’s a humane method of euthanasia.”Cochran adds that gunshot euthanasia is safer and faster than lethal injection, which can cause horses to thrash with fear, jeopardizing horse handlers' safety.10News independently verified that gunshot euthanasia for horses is legal in California. On their various social media platforms, Cochran’s critics express their negative feelings about this method, but their real problem is with the horses' living conditions and fundraising practices.“I think she needs to step away,” says Abby Kogler. She’s a professional horse trainer and horse owner who says she’s been on the rescue’s property. “The piles of poop are as big as my house. It’s a pest fest,” she says.Kogler believes money is Cochran’s motivator, adding, “We’re against buying really harmed horses from the abusers and then taking trusting people’s money [when they think] they’re saving horses from nonexistent slaughter pipelines and then [the horses are] just put down.”San Diego County officials tell us there’s no signs of abuse or neglect. That’s according to a recent investigation that was conducted by a contracted third party, since Cochran used to work for the county as an animal control officer.The nonprofit admits it purchased 17 “compassion pulls” last year. It reports it euthanized another 54 that could not be rehabilitated, but that’s out of a total of more than 400 horses it reportedly rescued. It reports it adopted out more than 150 horses.HiCaliber has not filed its 2016 taxes, citing getting an extension after an administrator had a family emergency. We found the rescue's 2015 IRS records, which showed it totaled more than 0,000 in revenue with only about ,000 going to management expenses. The rescue claims it spends up to ,000 a month on operations costs.Cochran acknowledges that she should reduce the number of horses on the rescue’s property and says she’s working on that with the county.The California Veterinary Medical Board is investigating the nonprofit. The California Attorney General’s Office will neither confirm nor deny whether its opened an investigation.HiCaliber reports incoming donations have dropped by 60 percent since it recently came under attack.
