CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping held talks with South African President Jacob Zuma here on Wednesday, calling for all-round cooperation and richer content of the comprehensive strategic partnership and strengthened coordination in international policies.During the talks, Xi first conveyed the warm greetings from Chinese President Hu Jintao to South African President Zuma.Xi hailed the Beijing Declaration on the Establishment of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed by the leaders of the two countries during Zuma's visit to China in August this year, saying that it has lifted China-South Africa relations to a new high and will guide the bilateral relations in the new era.Xi, who arrived here on Tuesday for a four-day official visit to South Africa, said the main purpose of his visit is to co-host with South African Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe the fourth plenary session of the China-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC).Xi said this plenary session marks a significant step in fulfilling the goals proposed by the two sides in the Beijing Declaration and BNC serves as an important platform to push forward bilateral cooperation in all areas and further implement the consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries.He said China is willing to work together with South Africa to promote the all-round cooperation, hoping that the two sides will continue to maintain closer high-level political contacts, and further deepen pragmatic cooperation especially in the areas such as trade, economy, agricultural technology and professional training.China wishes to strengthen close coordination in key international issues with South Africa, said Xi. China would also like to coordinate with BASIC countries on occasions of the United Nations such as in the forthcoming climate change conference to be held in Cancun, Mexico.Xi noted that China is to strengthen communication and cooperation with South Africa within the framework of the China- Africa Cooperation Forum so as to realize peace and development in the African continent.Xi also introduced the basic content and China's experience in formulating the 12th Five-year Plan (2011-2015).For his part, Zuma spoke highly of China's role in international affairs, saying that the South Africa-China relations are strategic.South Africa hopes that the Chinese friends will play an active role in South Africa's newly-launched New Economic Growth Path including the key projects in infrastructure construction of the African continent, said Zuma.Also on Wednesday, Xi met with Speaker of South African National Assembly Max Sisulu.

BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature said Monday in a statement that it will continue discussing a draft amendment to the Criminal Law, which proposes tougher punishments for those involved in organized crime and drink-driving.Members of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee will discuss the draft amendment at an upcoming bi-monthly session scheduled for Dec. 20-25, according to a statement issued after a meeting of the chairman and vice-chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over by chairman Wu Bangguo.The legislature conducted the first reading of the draft amendment in August.Wu Bangguo (C), chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), presides over the 54th chairpersons' meeting of the 11th NPC Standing Committee at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 13, 2010. FUZHOU, Nov. 11 (Xinhua)-- Alibaba.com Ltd., operator of China' s largest online-commerce site for businesses, said its paying members in the third quarter exceeded 1 million for the first time, as shown in its unaudited financial figures for the quarter, released on Thursday.Alibaba boasts 56.7 million registered users, 8.2 million storefronts and over 1 million paying members, up by 25 percent, 35 percent and 30 percent respectively, year on year, according to the report."We specifically stepped up our efforts in enforcing a trusted and safe environment in our marketplace by eliminating paying members who committed fraud, as well as those who have a high probability to commit fraud. In this quarter, we terminated about 1,200 Gold Supplier members," said David Wei, chief executive officer of Alibaba.com., as posted on its website.Further, Alibaba's third quarter profit rose by 55 percent to 366.1 million yuan (55.3 million U.S. dollars) from 236 million yuan one year earlier, Alibaba said."Despite the uncertainty and mixed signals in the global economic environment, we are gratified to see our financial growth remained strong during this quarter," said David Wei.

GUANGZHOU, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- A fishing boat with at least 13 crew aboard has been missing for a week in waters off the coast of south China's Guangdong Province, authorities said Friday.The boat, registered in Yangxi County, Yangjiang City, was unable to be located at its anchoring spot in Dongping Port at 3 a.m. on Dec. 16, when other boats in the port that were taking shelter from strong winds received the boat's distress call, Yangxi County marine affairs officials said.Winds of up to 72 kilometers per hour started blowing on Dec. 15, whipping up five- to six-meter-high waves, the official said.The family of the boat's owner, Feng Zixing, reported the boat missing on Dec. 17, after private searches failed to find the boat or its crew.Feng and most of the missing crew are from the county's Lanpao Village.A search for the boat had found nothing by 7 p.m. Friday.The 28-meter-long, 5-meter-wide boat was built with steel in 2001. It was equipped with radar and walkie-talkies.
