BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — A priest in Bay Village says someone called police about a homeless person sleeping on a bench. It turns out it was actually a statue of Jesus.The sculpture was created by Timothy Schmalz, and depicts Jesus wrapped in a blanket and lying on a bench.Within 20 minutes of the sculpture's installation at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, police were called, according to the church's pastor, Alex Martin. He tweeted that an officer told him someone had called to report a homeless person sleeping on a park bench.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland reached out to Bay Village police, who have not yet responded to a request for more information.According to the church's website, because Bay Village isn't impacted much by poverty, the statue is meant to remind residents how serious homelessness is in the world.The temporary installment will be on display until Dec. 1.The church is currently raising money to try and help the homeless. BERLIN (AP) — German prosecutors say police investigating the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann in Portugal in 2007 are searching a garden plot in the northern city of Hannover in connection with their probe. Julia Meyer, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office in Braunschweig, confirmed local media reports Tuesday that police investigators had been at the site since Monday with an excavator in connection with the case but couldn't provide further details. McCann was 3 at the time of her 2007 disappearance from an apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal while on a vacation with her family.German authorities said last month they had identified a 43-year-old German citizen as a suspect in the case.The suspect was "in and around Praia da Luz" at the same time McCann went missing, officials said in the news release.The suspect was seen driving two vehicles during his time in Portugal: a VW campervan and a 1993 Jaguar XJR 6. BONITA (KGTV) -- Neighbors in Bonita say their street is becoming congested with "toll dodgers" - drivers who are going out of their way to avoid paying the .55 toll on State Route 125.   It's not just the traffic buildup that neighbors find concerning, it's that these drivers are often speeding - right past an elementary school, parks and horse tracks. In a community meeting Tuesday, the City shared plans to fix the issues on Briarwood and San Miguel Ranch roads. RELATED: Drivers dodging tolls on SR 125 cause problems in South Bay neighborhood"There's a lot of concern about people trying to evade the tolls," said Greg  Cox, with the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. As a result, Cox said the City lowered the speed limit on San Miguel Road to 25 mph and placed a stop sign at a popular horse crossing. They also plan to intall a traffic signal at Sunnyside Elementary School. "If the County can secure a grant for the funding, that could be done within the next year," Cox said. John Scott has been in the neighborhood since the mid 1980s. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A Bloomington, Ind. man is accused of holding a toddler under hot water as a punishment after the child soiled his diaper, causing severe burns.The investigation began on November 24, after the 2-year-old boy was transported to Riley Hospital for Children to be treated for multiple severe burns and other injuries.According to court documents, Dennis Tannen, 29, was watching his girlfriend’s son while she was at work when the child was burned.Tannen initially told police that he had put the child in the bathtub and left him for “10 seconds” and when he came back the child had turned on the hot water, burning himself.The child's mother said Tannen called her and she rushed home and found him “outside smoking a cigarette.” She told police that her son had large burn marks on his face that looked like his skin was falling off when she first saw him. They took the child to IU Bloomington Hospital where he was later transported to Riley Hospital for Children.The child was treated for severe burns on his face, lips, buttocks, and genitals. Riley doctors told police that the child also had suspicious bruising on his chest and face and that the child’s injuries did not match up the couple's story. After multiple rounds of questioning, Tannen eventually admitted to police that he was waiting for a phone call when the toddler had a bowel movement in his diaper. He said he became agitated and went to wash the child off in the bathtub, turning the water on “full hot” and holding him under it to wash him off.Tannen told police he also put the child’s face under the same hot water to wash and that the child had slipped when he was holding him and he grabbed him, which caused the bruises on the child’s chest.Tannen was arrested and charged with felony neglect of a dependent. 1833
