It’s not uncommon to convert an old warehouse into lofts or apartments.But what about converting something a little more unique, a little more historic?Something like, a church?That’s what developers did in a Denver, Colorado neighborhood. The Gothic-revival, Methodist Episcopal church was built in 1889, designed by Denver architect Franklin E. Kidder. It was declared an historic landmark in 1970. But that didn't stop it from ending up abandoned as the neighborhood changed.Enter developers with a vision. They re-envisioned the church as The Sanctuary Lofts. They preserved much of the church’s unique features, like the stained-glass windows, exposed brick, and wood paneling, and converted the church into condominiums. There’s even a confessional in one of the condos serving as the room’s focal point.One of the 12 condos in this church was recently on the market. Realtor David Wheaton said each unit offers different pieces of the past. “In some units we actually have stained glass windows exposed and holy items that were a part of the church that are actually infused into the units," said Wheaton. “Many of these buildings such as this church, the congregation wasn’t able to support it financially. It kind of fell into disrepair for a while and it was deconsecrated at some time.”While this conversion was done long before the current housing crisis, it underscores the need to find places to live. In this case, the condos come with a completely unique twist on what’s possible.This converted church is just one example of creative living makeovers.The Arcade, the first indoor shopping mall in the United States, is now home to 48 apartments.  The Arcade is in Providence, Rhode Island and was built in 1828. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark.In Charleston, South Carolina, the Cigar Factory is another example of an historic building beginning a new chapter.  It was built in 1881 as a cotton manufacturing facility before converting to cigar production in 1903. While plans to transform it into condos 100 years later were ultimately scrapped, it’s now home to office, restaurant and event space.  2265

INDIANAPOLIS -- A splash of color painted the streets of Vice President Mike Pence's hometown of Columbus, Indiana on Saturday as the town hosted its first-ever Pride Festival. The colorful event featured live music, food and even a drag competition. This small town festival made big news because hometown boy, Vice President Mike Pence is known for being a conservative Christian who signed the 2015 religious protections law that created a legal defense for businesses that objected to serving LGBTQ customers. Columbus High School senior Erin Bailey, 18, came up with the idea and helped bring it to life. He and close aides left the White House Thursday afternoon without talking to the media.The president also participated in a roundtable event, coming into close contact with dozens of people, including campaign supporters.The president did not wear a mask Thursday at the events at his golf course or on the plane, according to the Washington Post.He was tested after he returned to the White House late Thursday night. He did not talk to the media when he returned to Washington.Thursday night the president spoke to Fox News host Sean Hannity by phone and tweeted statements about he and the First Lady's positive results. Hicks showed symptoms following a Trump campaign rally in Minnesota Wednesday night, according to CNN and other media. She had spent time that day with the president and other presidential advisors, then flew to the rally together on Air Force One. Multiple reports state Hicks was quarantined on the plane back to Washington, D.C. and deplaned by the rear steps. So far, close aides, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and the Vice President and Second Lady have all tested negative for the coronavirus.However, the president’s diagnosis is likely to raise questions about the rapid testing system at the White House, which is known to have a lower accuracy rate than more intrusive COVID-19 tests.The president is expected to conduct official and political events from the residence — including a call on Friday with senior citizens about the coronavirus. 1960

INDIANAPOLIS -- It was a busy day for police in Greenwood, Indiana on Monday after three accidents involving trains left three people injured. The three are expected to survive. No one was seriously injured in any of the crashes. The first crash happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Pushville Road near E. Worthville Road. Police said no one was injured in the crash but the car was destroyed. The second crash happened just before 4 p.m. on County Line Road just east of Madison Avenue. Police said a woman driving a car came up to the intersection where a train was passing through and for some unknown reason did not stop. The woman driving the car was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries but is expected to be OK. The third crash happened near the same intersection.Police have not released many details about the crash but said that the person inside the vehicle was awake and talking when they arrived. That person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. All three crashes remain under investigation. MORE TOP STORIES |?Pet raccoon, stoned off of too much weed, brought to Indianapolis firehouse.
