SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was killed Saturday when an SUV overturned and crashed into a tree on the Sea World Drive on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol said.The accident happened about 9 a.m. when a white Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV, traveling at a high rate of speed according to one witness, overturned and hit a tree on the right shoulder of the Sea World Drive on-ramp, according to CHP Officer Salvador Castro.Units from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were also on the scene, near the Tecolote Canyon Natural Park and Nature Center.The CHP had no immediate information on the identity of the victim. Cannon, 20, pleaded guilty last month to charges stemming from a video clip showing a group of officers punching him during a struggle on a South Bay roadside in early May. The 12-second video sparked public debate, with critics saying the officers used excessive force in arresting Cannon. At that point, police said Cannon burst out of the vehicle and tackled the patrolman, prompting several other officers to pile onto Cannon as one of his companions videotaped the unfolding fracas from inside the car."Believing Cannon possibly had another weapon, responding officers used a combination of physical force and distraction strikes to take him into custody while continuously giving him orders to surrender,'' Nisleit said."Cannon refused to cooperate and struggled to keep his hands in front of his body. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An emaciated dog found Friday in Bandy Canyon remains in critical condition but has shown some signs of improvement, the San Diego Humane Society's animal care staff reported today.A county resident brought the 2-year old male pit bull mix to the Humane Society's Escondido campus after finding him extremely dehydrated and cold, with pressure sores on his hips and knees. Humane Society veterinarians are working to feed and re-hydrate the dog slowly so as not to damage his body in its current fragile state.According to the organization, it could take between seven and 10 days for the dog to turn a corner and begin to recover. Humane Society staff are hopeful that will happen."When I found him he was extremely lethargic and weak,'' said Humane Society Law Enforcement Sgt. Lauren Monreal. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Jurors reached a verdict Tuesday in the trial of a Navy SEAL accused of fatally stabbing a wounded teenage ISIS fighter in the neck, shooting at numerous Iraqi civilians and threatening fellow SEALs to keep them from reporting him.Jurors found Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher not guilty on six out of seven charges, including not guilty verdicts for premeditated murder, two charges of attempted premeditated murder, obstruction of justice, retaliation, and willful discharge of a weapon. Jurors did find him guilty of wrongfully posing for a photo with the teen's body. That guilty charge carries a possible sentence up to four months. 673

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities today publicly identified a U.S. Border Patrol agent who fatally shot a Mexican national last month during a scuffle just north of the international line in San Ysidro.Ryan Gonsalves, a nine-year member of the federal agency who is assigned to its Imperial Beach station, opened fire on 30-year-old David Angel Villalobos-Baldovinos early on the evening of Oct. 23 near Las Americas Premium Outlets mall on Camino De La Plaza, according to the San Diego Police Department.The events that led to the deadly gunfire began about 5:45 p.m., when Villalobos-Baldovinos allegedly tried to enter the United States illegally and was confronted by Gonsalves, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.When the agent tried to detain Villalobos-Baldovinos, a struggle broke out. During the fracas, the lawman shot the suspect once in the upper body.Gonsalves suffered minor injuries during the fight, Brown said. The SDPD Homicide Unit was called in to investigate the case, as is standard protocol in all instances of law enforcement shootings in the city.The findings of the probe will subsequently be reviewed by the U.S. Attorney's office, the lieutenant said. 1175
