Across the U.S., employees at a large media company are working to put books in the hands of children living in poverty.That company — E.W. Scripps — is inviting the public to help.The Scripps Howard Foundation’s annual “If you give a child a book …” literacy campaign has started and will run through the end of August. The literacy campaign has distributed more than 100,000 new books to children across the country since 2017.Now in its third year, the campaign is a partnership of the Foundation, employees of The E.W. Scripps Company and donors who provide matching gifts to advance childhood literacy by increasing access to books. ?Every dollar raised during the “If you give a child a book … ” campaign is used for the purchase of books for children who need them most. After a five-year battle, the father of Las Vegas quintuplets is acquitted of rental fraud charges.The Derricos became instant celebrities in 2013 when they became a family of eleven. The family was featured on both local and national television shows."That's when all hell broke loose," said dad Deon Derrico.Derrico was facing multiple charges, including felonies. Prosecutors alleged the father forged quitclaim deeds to force a change of ownership and collect rent."Nothing seemed to change their minds once they decided I was guilty," said Derrico.Derrico said he cooperated with the investigation all along because he was innocent."The homeowner I bought this from came back later," he said, "...and alleged that I hadn't because they wanted more money."Jurors reached their verdict after a trial that lasted a week. They acquitted Derrico of all but two counts related to notarization of a signature. Prosecutors say they'll reexamine the merits of the case at the next hearing.The family said the case has forever changed their lives.Mom Karen Derrico was pregnant with triplets last year. She says she believes she lost one because of the stress of the upcoming trial."We believe that everything, it happens for a reason," she said. "This was our test for our testimony." 1318

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -- The woman killed in an explosion authorities believe was intentional in Orange County Tuesday has been identified as Ildiko Krajnyak-Vestil of Trabuco Canyon.The explosion happened from the inside of the two-story medical facility located on 5 Mareblu just after 1 p.m.The person who died was inside the building at the time of the blast. Authorities first believed a car had crashed into the side of the building but later said that isn’t the case.The FBI and a bomb squad were sent to the scene to assess the situation and investigate the cause of the explosion.At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, the FBI said they ruled out any accidental cause of the explosion, saying they believe the incident was intentional. An FBI official said there were items found at the scene that were inconsistent with what would be at the medical facility. A motive is unclear at this time and authorities say they haven't arrested any suspects. Officials told KABC that the medical facility appeared to be under construction. A preschool in the area was ordered to evacuate as a precaution after the explosion. Authorities held a news conference giving an update on the investigation Wednesday afternoon. AKRON, N.Y. – 2020 has been a bit of roller coaster and for some, there's been more downs than ups.Before the pandemic, a roller coaster is exactly where you could find Eric Hall and his family. One summer day in 2019, something was getting in the way of his ride.“The guy did everything he could to get me in,” recalled Hall. “Which was not only super humiliating and humbling, but obviously at the same time it was very eye opening for me because something that I love to do, especially with my family, now my weight and my health was restricting me from doing that.”Hall knew he needed to change.
