VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A local couple is defending themselves after having their claims questioned following the release of new surveillance video showing a man allegedly trying to snatch a toddler from their car in a Vista Costco parking lot last weekend.The surveillance video released Thursday night shows 37-year-old Adam Glavinic walking up to the driver's side of the parent’s white SUV. The SUV begins slowly backing out of the stall, and that is when Glavinic reaches for the rear passenger door handle. Glavinic is shown opening the door then quickly shutting it and stepping away as a woman gets out the driver’s seat to confront him. Glavinic doesn't appear to reach inside to grab the boy who was in the backseat, according to his parents.“There's way more to this story that people don't know,” said mother Jennifer Lawson on Friday. She said that she and her fiancé are taking heat from the public after describing the encounter differently from what the video reveals. “We didn't lie. We were told that from everybody who was seeing the incident that he did touch our kid. He did reach his hand in the car. So, that's what we went off of. I didn't see [it] because I jumped out of the car as soon as I saw that guy open up the door,” she told ABC10 News.Earlier this week before the video came out, the couple said the man tried to pull their boy out of his car seat.Glavinic was arrested for attempted kidnapping and being under the influence.In response to community outrage over Glavinic posting bail and getting out of jail the next day, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department published the video in hopes of alleviating concern.The sheriff's office said that, based on the video and other evidence, "the Vista Sheriff's Station believes there is no ongoing threat or danger to our community's children related to this incident."When asked if Glavinic should still be charged, Lawson replied, “I'm not sure. I don't know his intentions. I didn’t know if he was going to kidnap my kid or hurt him. All I know is that it was terrifying and I was scared for my kid's life, safety [and] everything.”The case has been referred to the DA's Office, which is reviewing it. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Video of a violent arrest by San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies in Vista has renewed calls for better community engagement by local law enforcement.Rev. Shane Harris said that push was galvanized last July after Jonathon Colonel was shot and killed by a Deputy after a foot pursuit.While the Sheriff’s Department said Colonel was a documented gang member, he was not armed at the time of the shooting. His family said he was shot 17 times. The Sheriff’s Department said he had been reaching under his shirt when the deputy opened fire.After that shooting, Harris said the captain of the Sheriff’s station in Vista, Charles Cinnamo, promised to create a community advisory committee.Harris said the group would be composed of various community members who could offer perspective on issues ranging from racial profiling to police brutality.“Conversation lowers tension, automatically,” said Harris.Capt. WARNING: Some might find the video disturbing due to content and languageDELRAY BEACH, Fla.-- Delray Beach, Florida police officers responded to a call Saturday of a woman and children standing on a roof. When they got there, they say they found a 23-year-old woman who was hallucinating and two small children on the garage ledge on a townhouse. Officer Rob Addea got under the window, ready to catch a child or the woman if necessary, police said.“Just get the kids back inside,” Addea said.Two other officers went upstairs and out a window to the ledge and one grabbed the children's arms while the other tried to reason with the woman, police said.Police eventually were able to rescue all of them.Body camera video recorded the actions of the officers. The woman has been committed to a mental health facility under the Baker Act and might face criminal charges, police said.The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating and the children are in their custody.  1032

VISTA (CNS) - Murder and child cruelty charges were filed Friday against a man accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter at the family's Oceanside home.Pedro Araujo, 27, is accused in Wednesday's slaying of Mariah Araujo, whose body was found in the home's bathroom.Police have not commented on her cause of death, but the criminal complaint indicates that a knife was used in her killing. In addition to murder, he's also charged with child cruelty in regards to Mariah, as well her 6-year-old sister, Viviana, who was also in the home at the time.RELATED: 7-year-old found dead in Oceanside home, father arrestedAraujo was slated to appear in a Vista courtroom Friday afternoon, but did not appear because he was being held in "enhanced observation housing," though court staff did not elaborate. He's tentatively due to be arraigned Monday afternoon.The child's grandmother made an emergency call shortly after 11 a.m. to report that she had just gone the family's house in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive to pick up Mariah and her sister but had been unable to find the older girl, police spokesman Tom Bussey said.The woman reported that her son -- the girls' father -- had been evasive about the whereabouts of his elder daughter and had blood on him, Bussey said.Officers went to the residence near Emerald Isle Golf Course and searched it, finding the victim's body in a bathroom.
