BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- China will step up efforts to crack major corruption cases, especially those with collusion between leading officials and business people, according to the full text of a speech delivered by Premier Wen Jiabao.The document was released on Sunday. Wen delivered the speech at a State Council meeting on this year's anti-corruption work on Tuesday.In the speech, Wen said efforts should be made to investigate those who trade power for money, and those who take advantage of power to do illegal things in areas including urban planning, approving construction programs, mineral resources exploration and bidding and tendering.Negligence and misconduct behind major work safety incidents and food safety scandals would also be probed.In the speech, Wen outlined key areas of the government's anti-corruption fight this year, including government funded projects, state-owned enterprises and financial institutions.He called for intensified efforts to trace the fugitives and their illicit money and property, and vowed "not to let those who commit corruption to go unpunished or get a penny out of their illicit gain."Government officials should strictly follow a code of ethics issued earlier this year by the Communist Party of China (CPC) to ensure clean practice in their work and to prevent corruptionThe guidelines specify 52 unacceptable practices, including officials accepting cash or financial instruments as gifts, or officials using their influence to benefit their spouses and children with regards to their employment, stock trading or business.And leaders of the State Council or central government departments should refrain from attending ceremonies or forums sponsored by companies, he added.Expenses on central government organs would be cut by 5 percent this year and government funded overseas trips, vehicle purchase, and reception expenditure should be reduced consequently, he said.

BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhua)-- China on Thursday says it has noted the investigation results released by the Republic of Korea (ROK) over the sinking of a ROK warship, calling on all parties to exercise calmness and restraint over relevant issues of the sinking.Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu made the remarks at a regular press briefing when responding to questions.He said China upheld that all parties should exercise calmness and restraint, properly deal with relevant issues, and avoid escalation of the situation.After the sinking of the ship, China expressed condolences and sympathy to the ROK on many occasions for their casualties, which fully embodied China's understanding of the grief of the ROK government and people.Ma said China has always viewed and dealt with international and regional affairs in a fair and objective manner.China is always devoted to safeguarding regional peace and stability, and promoting the progress of the six-party talks on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, he said, adding China was opposed to any activities which could run counter with the commitment.The 1,200-ton "Cheonan," with 104 crew members onboard, went down on March 26 near the South Korean island of Baekryeongdo off the west coast after an unexplained explosion, killing 46 crew members.

TOKYO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao described Tuesday his visit to Japan as successful, saying it has deepened trust, enhanced cooperation and consolidated the foundation for friendship between the two countries.In an interview with Japanese public broadcaster NHK, the Chinese premier called his visit to Japan "a journey of confidence and hope."Wen said he has achieved the visit's objectives of deepening mutual trust, enhancing cooperation and consolidating the foundation for friendship. "The visit is successful," he said.Important agreements were reached at his talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, including re-establishing a hot line between the heads of the two governments, creating a maritime communication mechanism between the two defense departments and speeding up the establishment of a maritime rescue agreement, Wen said.The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and identified green economy, energy and environmental protection and e-commerce as priority areas for cooperation, he said."Cooperation between China and Japan enjoys broad prospects," said Wen.The Chinese premier also called for promoting bilateral cultural and people-to-people exchanges, saying these exchanges are fundamental to the friendship between the two countries.After concluding a three-day visit to Japan earlier Tuesday, Wen is now in Mongolia for a two-day official visit.

  

BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday strongly condemned the bomb attacks in Moscow's metro system, and extended condolences to the families of victims."We strongly condemn the terrorist attack in Moscow subway, and express deep condolences over the deaths," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang.He said China supported Russia's efforts in fighting terrorism, and hoped to enhance cooperation within bilateral and Shanghai Cooperation Organization frameworks, to safeguard regional peace and stability.Earlier Monday, Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a telegram to Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev to extend condolences over the bombings.Two suicide bombings hit Moscow subway stations on Monday morning, killing at least 37 people and injuring more than 100 on two packed trains during the rush hour, according to Russian officials.It has been confirmed that the rush-hour blasts were set off by two female suicide bombers, who probably were linked to terrorist groups in the North Caucasus.

  

BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's four-nation Asia tour, which took him to South Korea, Japan, Mongolia and Myanmar and a tripartite summit of China, South Korea and Japan, was fruitful and widely applauded, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Thursday.The week-long tour was conducted against the backdrop that China needs to strengthen mutual trust and further deepen cooperation with the four countries while certain complex and sensitive issues in the region needed to be properly handled, Yang told reporters.The premier made the visits with confidence and hope for peace, friendship and cooperation, he said.POLITICAL MUTUAL TRUST PROMOTEDChinese Premier Wen Jiabao speaks during the third trilateral summit in South Korea's southern resort island of Jeju on May 29, 2010.
