CHANGCHUN, July 31 (Xinhua) - At least 47 people have been killed and 45 others remain missing in floods that have hit northeast China's Jilin Province since July 24, Jilin's civil affairs department said Saturday.In addition, about 375,000 people have been evacuated and 25,800 buildings collapsed due to the floods, with economic loss on account of flooding reaching nearly 4 billion yuan (590 million U.S. dollars), the department said in a statement.More heavy rains are expected from Aug. 3 to 4, according to local weather forecast.

HONG KONG, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- China Construction Bank (CCB), the country's second largest bank, said Sunday its net profit in the first half of this year jumped 27 percent to reach 70.78 billion yuan (10.4 billion U.S. dollars) from a year earlier and its non-performing loan (NPL) ratio dropped to 1.22 percent.In a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange, CCB said its profit before tax amounted to 92.19 billion yuan, up 27.2 percent year on year.RAPID GROWTH IN H1Key contributors to the rapid year-on-year growth of net profit were increased credit supply, service and product innovation, and decreased impairment losses, according to the statement.Regarding credit supply, the bank said its average balance of interest-bearing assets rose by 18.26 percent in the first half, prompting net interest income to surge by 15.33 billion yuan, or 15 percent.On service and product innovation, CCB said net fee and commission income rose by 10.22 billion yuan, or 43.63 percent year on year, as a result of sustained rapid expansion of fee-based business.The Beijing-based lender also said its impairment losses fell by 2.995 billion yuan, or 23.36 percent, due to price rally in foreign currency debt securities with the improving market.CCB President Zhang Jianguo said in the statement that there were signs of recovery in developed economies and robust growth of emerging economies against the backdrop of a gradually warming-up global economy in the first half.China has sustained rapid economic growth, thanks to the government's ongoing stimulation of domestic demand, he said. HANOI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made five proposals to the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) here on Friday to enhance regional security.Firstly, Yang said countries should bear in mind the overall situation and interests when dealing with sensitive regional issues, and always safeguard the regional peace and stability.Secondly, Yang said countries should adopt a new security concept by seeking cooperation instead confrontation, and respecting and taking care of each other's core interest and security.Thirdly, countries should respect each other, strengthen political mutual trust, improve and develop long-term, healthy and stable relations.Fourthly, countries should exercise restraint when disputes arise and settle disputes through peaceful means.Fifthly, countries should make use of multilateral mechanism like Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ASEAN Regional Forum and Six-Party Talks to promote common interest and common security.Yang said on one hand, the situation in Asia-Pacific region is generally stable. On the other hand, the unstable and uncertain factors are increasing.Yang said ARF could serve as a security dialogue platform to push for mutual trust among members. TAIPEI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's eastern Zhejiang Province and Taiwan have agreed to deepen cooperation in agriculture, tourism, finance and other sectors, according to sources with a Zhejiang delegation which concluded its eight-day visit to the island on Wednesday.The sources said that the delegation, led by Zhejiang governor Lu Zushan, purchased 31 million yuan (4.5 million U.S. dollars) worth fruits and tea products from local farmers in Kaohsiung and Nantou.Zhejiang provincial government also pledged to help Taiwan farmers to sell their agricultural products in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Yiwu and other cities in the province and offer them preferential treatment in participating farm produce exhibitions.Zhejiang Province plans to increase its imports from Taiwan to about 10 billion U.S. dollars by the end of this year, from last year's 7.7 billion U.S. dollars.After the first six Zhejiang companies which have been permitted to conduct investment in Taiwan, Zhejiang government will promote more companies to invest in the island.Commercial banks in Zhejiang and Taiwan have also achieved cooperation agreement on financial service, insurance, futures trading and other services for small and medium-sized companies on both sides.Zhejiang is where many Taiwan people come from.The province is also a magnet for Taiwanese investment.
