BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) - China on Friday called for a settlement to the territorial dispute between Israel and the Arab countries through negotiations.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks while commenting on an Israeli bill that had been passed by the Israeli Knesset (parliament) Monday. The bill demands a referendum should any Israeli government make territorial concessions in East Jerusalem to the Palestinians or in the Golan Heights to Syria.Since the aftermath of the 1967 war, Israeli law requires a two-thirds majority of consent by the Israeli public when handing over territories to Palestine and Syria.However, the law goes against the spirit of United Nations (UN) resolutions and cannot change the fact that East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights are occupied lands of the Arab countries, Hong said."China calls on Israel to follow the relevant UN resolutions as well as the established principles of international laws to properly settle the territorial dispute through negotiations for the realization of a comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East," said Hong.

As an inland country, Laos wants to counter its disadvantages of being land-locked by improving its transportation systems, Lengsavad said at the ongoing seventh World Congress on High Speed Rail in Beijing.In April, Laos reached an agreement with China to establish a joint venture that will construct a railway linking China's southwestern Yunnan province and the Lao capital of Vientiane. The project will be launched in 2011, with an estimated construction time of four years, Lengsavad said.Thailand, another country in Southeast Asia, is also partnering with China to improve its rail network.In October, Thailand approved a negotiation framework for a project for Thailand-China cooperation on high-speed rail. NAIROBI, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Jointly set up by China and Africa in October 2000, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has made abundant achievements in the last decade, boosting the development of the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership in an all-round and tangible way.The FOCAC, a collective consultation and dialogue mechanism between China and African countries, is the first of its kind in the history of China-Africa relations. It is a major future- oriented move taken by both sides in the context of South-South cooperation to seek common development in the new situation.Besides four ministerial meetings, the forum held a summit in November 2006 in Beijing, when Chinese President Hu Jintao and his African counterparts agreed unanimously to building "a new type of strategic partnership featuring political equality and mutual trust, economic win-win cooperation and cultural exchanges". It is an important milestone and beacon for the China-Africa relation development in the new times. The Chinese government has fully implemented the eight initiatives of assistance developed at a series of ministerial conferences and particularly at the Beijing Summit.
