ALPINE (CNS) - San Diego County will open an erosion control center in Alpine tomorrow to help businesses and homeowners prevent debris flows in the areas burned by the Valley Fire.The center, at 2914 Tavern Road, will offer free sandbags, fiber rolls and other items to help residents stabilize properties before rains arrive. and potentially trigger mudslides and debris flows, county officials said.Starting Thursday, the center will be open to business and property owners from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Appointments are not required this weekend, but will be required starting on Monday.Residents and business owners can schedule an appointment to pick up erosion control materials by calling the county's stormwater hotline at 888-846-0800.Staff will be available to advise on how to protect properties, homes, garages, sheds and other structures. Staff can also visually inspect properties and offer information on best practices to protect structures.As of Wednesday morning, the Valley Fire remained at 17,665 acres and was 90% contained, according to a Cleveland National Forest incident page.The conflagration, which broke out early on the afternoon of Sept. 5 off Spirit Trail and Carveacre Road in Japatul Valley, ultimately destroyed 30 residences and 31 outbuildings, damaged 11 other structures and left three firefighters injured, according to Cal Fire. 1438

(KGTV) - The movie set ranch featured in the HBO television series “Westworld” and almost 500 other productions was destroyed in the Woolsey Fire, Santa Monica Mountains park rangers tweeted Friday.The piece of Hollywood history, known as “Western Town” at Paramount Ranch, was located in Agoura. With its rolling hills and canyons, it was used to create an Old West look for film and television shoots.Paramount Studios bought the 2,700 acre ranch in the golden era of Hollywood. According to the National Park Service, the permanent Western Town was built in the 1950s and posed as Tombstone, Arizona, and Dodge City, Kansas.In addition to “Westworld”, the set also served as the home of “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” and episodes of Gunsmoke. A woman led Sheboygan County Sheriff's deputies through three counties at speeds of more than a 100 mph after she stole candy and lighters. According to the criminal complaint, Nicole Rupert, 34, was pulled over in Sheboygan after being spotted in a Walmart taking some items. She pulled over on the highway at first, but when deputies asked her to move the car farther away from traffic, she took off.Deputies chased her, at one point reaching speeds of 115 mph. She maneuvered around cars on the highway even hit stop spikes near Oostburg. Deputies said her tires blew but she just kept driving.The chase was eventually called off but deputies were told to continue to follow her as she slowed down. Rupert eventually made it to downtown Milwaukee where her car came to a stop.Rupert has been charged with retail theft, fleeing and drug charges. Deputies also found an illegal prescription, pot and mushrooms in her car. She is due in court April 4 at 1:30 p.m.  992

Actress Felicity Huffman is reportedly heading back to television to star in an upcoming ABC sitcom.A year after serving 11 days of a two-week sentence for her role in the college admissions bribery scheme, Deadline reports that Huffman is starring in a new pilot commissioned by ABC.The untitled comedy stars Huffman as a widowed woman who inherits her husband's baseball team.It was inspired by Susan Savage, who owns the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.Actor Zack Gottsagen will play Huffman's onscreen son, a baseball devotee with Down syndrome, according to The Hollywood Reporter.According to Deadline, Hartman Edwards will write and will also be an executive producer with Huffman, Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor, Joel Zadak of Artists First, and Savage.
