FORT DODGE, Iowa — A Colorado man is facing charges of assault for throwing water on Rep. Steve King, a controversial Republican U.S. Representative from Iowa. Rep. King was having a group lunch at the Mineral City Mill and Grill restaurant in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on Friday when he was approached by a man who inquired about his identity. According to a spokesperson from the Fort Dodge Police Department, after learning the man at the table was King, the suspect then threw a glass on water on King. It's unclear if the man said anything to the U.S. representative when the alleged assault took place. The release states others at the table with King were also splashed and police were called. “Based on witness information, it is believed Mr. King was specifically targeted due to his position as a United States Representative,” a spokesperson for the police department said in the release. The suspect was identified as Blake Gibbins 26, of Lafayette, and was charged two counts of simple assault and one count of disorderly conduct. He was arrested and taken to a county jail without incident after police found him inside the restaurant. King has been embroiled in controversy over the past several months for 1231

Cheese Importers is a business that will directly feel the impacts of the cheese tariffs recently imposed on the European Union. “We started in 1976 out of our family home with six packs of cheeses from Wisconsin,” Cheese Importers Co-Owner Clara White said. From olives and pastries to European home goods, its main attraction is in the name. Cheese Importers offers a selection of 350 imported cheeses – most of them are from Europe. “Countries like Italy, Portugal, Spain, France,” said Sascha Stanger, the Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Purchasing at Cheese Importers. It’s a popular spot for cheese lovers. However, prices are about to go up as cheeses of all types and flavors because the European Union has just been hit with an import tariff. "Really, it is impacting people negatively,” White said. White and Stanger say certain cheese prices are subject to a potential 25% increase. “[Cheeses like] Parmesan-Reggiano from Italy, Grana Padano from Italy, Buffalo Mozzarella from Italy,” Stanger said. “One of the items that will definitely be subject to change is Manchego from Spain.” The team says they haven’t felt a huge impact yet, but they’re anticipating a potential hit to their bottom-line. Therefore, they’re looking for alternative solutions to save money. “We buy directly from our sources in importing, but in the meantime – just to figure out how to put ourselves in a position of strength as what everyone is doing – we’d reach out to all of our importer partners across the united states and see what they would sell to us at the better price point,” White said. Truth is, European cheese is what the business is known for. Inevitably, customers will have to pay more. “You either have to pass it on, or you have to absorb it. And there’s not much room to absorb it. In fact, there’s no room to absorb it,” White said. Distinguished economics professor Dr. Kishore Kulkarni with MSU Denver says there are multiple reasons the current administration could be imposing tariffs on goods from Europe. It's a way for the U.S. to generate more tax revenue. Tariffs are also a way to punish foreign exporters if the government believes a certain country is not playing on a level field. In the context of cheese, Dr. Kulkarni says it's likely the federal government is hoping the tariffs will help U.S. cheese producers earn more money. “As we raise the taxes on the European imports, then the domestic cheese producers like it, because the price of imported cheese goes up, and then the domestic cheese producers can obviously raise their prices a little bit, and then their competition is stopped by this tax,” Dr. Kulkarni said. However, in his opinion, tariffs are never beneficial for the economy as a whole. “40 years of economics training has been telling me that the penalty that consumers pay, is much higher than the benefits that domestic producers get,” Dr. Kulkarni said. When one country imposes a tariff, the other country is likely to retaliate. “Then it just becomes a trade war, and this is a war where nobody wins,” Dr. Kulkarni said. It's a war where the consumer is punished too. “The fact is that the cost of a tariff gets passed along to consumers,” Cheese Importers customer Steve Pittman said. Ultimately, Cheese Importers hopes the tariffs will be lifted. PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Around the world there are more than 100 safe injection sites, in countries like Canada, Australia and Spain. However, in the U.S. there are none. “In 2017, 1,217 Philadelphians died of overdoses. Last year about 1,150,” said Philadelphia’s former mayor, and the state’s former governor, Ed Rendell. Rendell has been leading a fighting for Philadelphia to open the first safe injection site in the country. He joined the organization Safehouse in this effort shortly after his best friend’s son overdosed on heroin. “When John Decker died, it became personal,” added Rendell. “Decker wasn’t my son, but I knew him since he was a 2-year-old boy.”Safe injection sites provide a place for users to inject drugs under medical supervision. The proposal has landed Rendell and supporters of the plan against the federal government. The Department of Justice sued Safehouse last year to block the site but then earlier this month this call happened. “It’s kind of a nuance. He just said it’s not unlawful activity,” said a board member of Safehouse who was on speaker phone in Rendell’s office. The call described a judge’s decision minutes earlier. The federal judge denied the Trump administration’s motion to block Safehouse from opening a safe injection site under the federal Crack House Statue. “It is clearly a victory,” said Rendell during the call. A victory against the D.O.J for now, but Rendell and Safehouse still have to win over the public. There’s a lot the criticism around the idea of a safe injection sites, some argue one in the U.S. would be promoting the use of opioid drugs rather than curbing it. “Ridiculous! No one is going to get hooked on opioids because they think of themselves well if I get her back and always inject in front of a medical personnel,” Rendell responds. However, many in the community of Kensington, where the safe injection site would be located, add additional concerns. Two sets of human remains found in the backyard of Chad Daybell's property have been confirmed to be those of JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan.According to a news release Saturday from the Rexburg Police Department in Idaho, the medical examiner's office confirmed their identities after performing an autopsy.Earlier this week, family members said in a statement that they were informed the remains were JJ and Tylee, who were reported missing last year.
