CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Police are searching for the person responsible for stabbing a man during a reported fight in Chula Vista.Police said they were called Wednesday just after 1:30 a.m. over a reported fight in the 500 block of Flower Street and that someone had been injured.Chula Vista Police arrived to find a Hispanic man in his 20s unresponsive with a stab wound on his upper body.The man was treated at the scene, but died of his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.No suspect was in custody Wednesday and police could not offer a possible description.Chula Vista Police Homicide Detectives were investigation the stabbing and ask anyone with information to call 619-691-5074. 732

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Talk about setting the academics bar high.An unexpected message sent to families of Rancho del Rey Middle School in Otay Ranch Wednesday night left about 2000 students trying to explain why they were required to attend Saturday School.("Could you describe the ruckus, sir," was probably said.)The school blitzed automated phone messages, texts, and emails alerting parents or guardians to have their child at school 8 a.m. Saturday morning for a half day of study."A teacher will come out to greet your student and escort them to a classroom, they are released at 12pm. Students should bring school work or reading materials for a 4 hour period of study," the message said.The school, which broadcast the messages to every registered family at around 5 p.m., confirmed about five hours later that the barrage of alerts was an error. "Earlier today a message about Saturday School was sent to all students. Please disregard the message, it was meant for a select group of students that needed to attend," said Rancho del Rey Middle School Assistant Principal Michael Govea.Since the school offices were closed when the messages were sent, nobody was around to answer calls from anxious families. In the span of that radio silence, trepidation across the student body prompted people to search for answers on Facebook."A few of my son friends received a notice for Saturday school from rancho del Rey middle. These kids are good student with no absences. Any parent receive a message about Saturday school?," one parent posted on a Facebook community page."I hope they send another message out saying it was a mistake or they are going to have a huge drop off on Saturday morning for Saturday school lol," another parent wrote.While the epic Breakfast Club summit won't take place, the school is requiring at least some students to be at campus this weekend. CHICAGO, Illinois (WGN) — Six people were rescued after an elevator suddenly stopped for several hours in the building formerly known as the John Hancock Center.Around 12:30 a.m. local time Friday, the group was leaving the Signature Room and the elevator was near the 95th floor when two cables broke, causing the elevator to stall near the 11th floor of Chicago’s fourth-tallest building.The elevator ride was faster than normal, those on it said. They later learned they fell 84 floors before their rescue, according to a report by The Chicago Tribune.Fire officials said the elevator was in a "blind shaft", which means there were no door openings.At about 3 a.m., firefighters broke through a brick wall in the parking garage to access the elevator and rescue the group, that included a pregnant woman.No one was injured or needed medical treatment.The John Hancock Center is Chicago's fourth-tallest building. 933

(KGTV) -- Parents at Eastlake High School are asking the Sweetwater Union High School District board to investigate a math teacher that students accuse of making inappropriate comments. The parents say the issue started last spring when the teacher made comments about erectile dysfunction in class. Other parents say the teacher hardly teaches, forcing their kids to fall behind. Dan Huslin, a parent of an Eastlake High sophomore, said the school's principal told him last year the teacher was suspended, but this year he found out he's back in the classroom. Huslin said when he asked about why he returned, the current principal told him the district was providing the teacher counseling to help him improve. On Monday night, parents spoke at a Sweetwater district meeting and asked the board to investigate and remove the teacher. Also, parents asked the district to provide math tutoring for the students who are now behind. A district spokesperson told 10News the teacher was not suspended last year and was instead out for personal reasons, adding that they couldn't comment on whether the teacher is receiving any counseling because it is a personnel matter. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Hazmat crew was called to a propane leak at a home in Chula Vista Tuesday night. Crews at the scene tell 10News that a food truck parked in the driveway of the home was leaking propane. Initially the plan was to jack the truck so crews could access, but they were unable to do so. They're now planning to safely light off the propane until it burns off. At this time one home has been evacuated, others may be evacuated soon. *This is a developing story. 10News will continue to update as details become available.  595
