SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man who was convicted of robbing a Chula Vista bank and fleeing the scene on a Lime scooter was sentenced on Monday to nearly five years in prison.Mario Daniel Haro, a 32-year-old United States citizen who lived in Rosarito, Mexico, was sentenced to 57 months in prison and must pay restitution for robbing the Chase Bank at 2121 Olympic Parkway in October 2019.In February, Haro admitted to entering the bank, telling a bank teller he had a gun, and handing the teller a threatening note, reading “I have a GUN! Give me all money. NO INK Packages."The teller complied with Haro's demands, officials said, and gave him about ,000. Haro then fled the scene on a Lime electric scooter.“Unfortunately this defendant failed to take advantage of his second chance and committed an additional violent crime,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “As this case demonstrates, individuals who reoffend will be investigated, arrested and convicted and usually the sentence will be longer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man sentenced to life behind bars after being convicted of shooting his coworker in his face. Julio Narvaez pleaded guilty to opening fire at his Phamatech company in 2017. "The consequences are something he has to bare," said judge Laura Halgren at his sentencing on Friday. Narvaez pleaded not guilty to shooting his coworker in the face at their Carmel Mountain Ranch office. Police say they got into an argument when Narvaez pulled out a gun from his desk and opened fire. The victim, Michael Limbag, is also the cousin of Narvaez's wife. He's still recovering two years later. "He has hearing loss," said Halgren. "There’s a fragment bullet in his brain that could move at any time. He has headaches every day, nightmares."The defense brought in a neurologist to testify. He said Narvaez may have a connection to Alzheimer's, but could not make a definitive diagnosis. That move then backfired for the defense. "If this really did play a role in Mr. Narvaez’s behavior, then he poses a danger and will continue to pose greater danger," said Halgren. "Whatever degenerative process he has could be offered an explanation for some of the behavior but doesn’t excuse it."Police say Narvaez tried to shoot the victim at least twice, but the gun jammed. Father and husband Matthew worked at MCRD.The lawsuit lists disturbing symptoms the family dealt with, including "diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, irritated eyes, watery eyes, fatigue, stuffy nose, sinus congestion, itchy skin, sneezing, sore and dry throat, chest tightness, runny nose, lethargy."Anna, 9, was brought to tears when she described what she and her family endured, "my breathing was bad, I got sick a lot and my brother," she said choking up.Her mother, Leigh, said she had to take Anna to the emergency room after Anna woke up in the middle of the night gasping for air.When it came to her 6-year-old son Johnathan, "you could hear him breathing downstairs, it was very loud we used to say he sounded like Darth Vader."She said she tried everything from a different diet to going to doctors to try and figure out why her family was sick."I felt everyone thought I was crazy. Doctors, family thought I was crazy," she said in anguish. Then, the family found vents covered in black mold."It was shocking, I was disgusted," Leigh said, but she was also relieved to find an answer."Okay this is it, let’s get rid of it and let’s get on with our lives so we can get back to the way things were," she said.The lawsuit stated the defendant, Lincoln Military Housing, "negligently, improperly, recklessly and in a non-controlled manner, exposing Plaintiffs to excessive moisture, dampness, and humidity, as well as microbial contamination."Leigh said the company tried to "put a band-aide" on the situation and didn't try to find the source of the mold, "we were still sick after all their attempts to clean."The family moved out and had to throw away toys and furniture to keep from contaminating their new home. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was hospitalized early Thursday morning after being shot near the Children's Park in downtown San Diego, police said.San Diego police said the shooting was reported at around 1 a.m. in an area near J Street and 2nd Avenue.The victim was taken to the hospital, and 10News learned he is expected to survive from his injuries.Meanwhile, officers searched a nearby tent where the suspected shooter was last seen but could not find him.A description of the suspected shooter was not immediately provided.The shooting remains under investigation. 573

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died after an SUV veered off a freeway in the National City area and crash landed in the Sweetwater River Friday morning.The California Highway Patrol said the incident involving a Lexus SUV was reported just before 5:40 a.m. on the westbound side of state Route 54, near the transition to Interstate 5.ABC 10News learned a woman was walking on a bike path along the Sweetwater River when she saw a vehicle come off the freeway and down an embankment.The woman told authorities that the SUV almost hit her and then crashed in the water.Authorities at the scene confirmed that a man believed to be the driver was pulled from the water but died despite life-saving measures at the scene. The CHP identified the man as a 69-year-old Chula Vista resident.A team of divers was sent into the water to determine if more people were in the SUV, but no other victims were located. The CHP later confirmed the deceased male was the SUV's lone occupant.A tow truck helped pull the vehicle from the water.The cause of the crash is under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact local authorities. 1158
