(KGTV) - The Navy is taking action to assess living conditions in military housing amid complaints of rodents, mold, and water damage. Families have shared stories about housing problems with 10News over several weeks. The Navy sent a survey Monday to received feedback on the situation. Erika Bradley, a Navy wife and mother, said she arrived at MCAS Miramar last June to find mice and mold in her new home. “When my husband calls and he's in a war zone, do you think I am going to complain about mold? ‘Hey babe, we have rats where our children eat,” Bradley said. “I don't want him to worry about that because if his mind isn't focused where it needs to be, that's peoples lives.” Lawmakers are trying to push a bill through Congress that would give military families power to withhold rent from landlords. More than 700,000 people live in privatized housing across military bases. Bradley is hoping the military will put more pressure on private companies, holding them accountable. The Navy is also conducting town hall meetings and walk-throughs. 10News reached out to MCAS Miramar property management, but they did not respond. 1143

(KGTV) -- New details tonight about the missing World War II bomber built in San Diego and lost at sea nearly 75 years ago.It was discovered near Papua New Guinea thanks to a local Scripps Oceanographer and his team.Scott Althaus keeps this replica of the B-24 bomber which became the final resting place for his cousin during World War II.RELATED: Project Recover finds missing World War II bomber off Papua New Guinea"This was done by a professional model builder in Camarillo," Althaus said via Skype from Illinois.Lt. Tom Kelly was the bombardier on the crew "Heaven Can Wait." They were part of the famous squadron known as the "Jolly Rogers."On March 11, 1944, while on a mission to bomb Japanese anti-aircraft batteries around Hansa bay in the South Pacific, the 11 person crew was shot down by enemy fire."My family had been involved in what was then a four-year research project," Althaus said.RELATED: San Diegan to be honored in Washington DC on Memorial DayThey gave that research to Project Recover. The group of marine scientists, archeologists, and historians went to work using science and advanced technology to find missing aircraft with servicemen still onboard."It's really easy to look on a map and say 'Hey, x marks the spot and it turns out that x could be several square miles,'" said Eric Terrill, Co-Founder of Project Recover and a Scripps OceanographerIn October 2017, Terrill and his team set out on a three-week expedition.  "These robots allow us to do very detailed surveys of the seabed using scanning sonar," he said.RELATED: USS Midway Museum asks for Memorial Day tributesAfter 11 days on the water covering roughly six thousand acres and talking to fishermen, Eureka!"It was a mixture of elation and sadness," he said. "It's very humbling knowing this is really a grave site of historical importance."Althaus' cousin was no longer just a name and a face in black and white."For the first time in 74 years, we've seen what his grave looks like and that is a priceless gift," Althaus said.RELATED: Memorial Day services, events happening in San DiegoToday, there are still more than 72,000 missing U.S. service members from WWII. "There are stories like this all around the country of an uncle or a father or a grandfather that never returned home," Terrill said. "It's remarkable to think that [families] carry this loss for that many decades and then to actually see it play out is just amazing."Lieutenant Kelly's family has already been in contact with the families of seven other crew members on the plane. They're hoping the military will recover the remains from the wreckage. 2671

(KGTV) - San Diegans will soon have to press a few more buttons — if they’re not already doing so.Starting May 19, everyone will be required to enter the area code then the 7-digit number when making calls or texts to the 619 or 858 area code. The call or message will not go through if you don’t add the area code prefix. For landlines, there’s one more step for callers. They must enter +1 the area code then the 7-digit number or the call will not be completed. The change was approved last year by the California Public Utilities Commission in an effort to prevent the area from running out of phone numbers. The CPUC expects all 619 prefixed number to be used up by early next year while 858 has approximately 30 years of phone numbers left.Experts suggest reprogramming the number with the proper area code prefix in all services like automatic dialing medical systems and alarm systems. The 619 area code largely serves the city of San Diego and portions of the South Bay, but also East County along with some unincorporated areas. The 858 area code spans north from San Diego into La Jolla, Del Mar and Solana Beach, as well as inland to Rancho Santa Fe, Rancho Bernardo and Poway. This change will not affect emergency calls to 911.  1270

(KGTV) - Is a "What's App" message offering up 2 free pizzas from Pizza Hut legit? No.It's just a ploy by scammers to get your personal information.Clicking on the link will force you to answer endless surveys, but you'll never get any pizza. 254
