SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County supervisors Wednesday unanimously approved the .1 million purchase of a nearly seven-acre parcel for a park in the community of Fallbrook.The 6.8-acre property, owned by Barr Ranch LLC, is located south of Fallbrook Road between Morro and Golden roads.Supervisor Jim Desmond, whose district includes Fallbrook, said the town doesn't have enough parks. He added the county will hold meetings with residents to see what kind of amenities residents would like included. He said some early requests include playgrounds and a skate park.Fallbrook currently has three local parks, providing 1 acre per 1,000 residents. That number doesn't meet the General Plan goal of 10 acres of local parkland for that same number of people.Money for the park purchase will come from a community development block grant, according to county documents. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Alliance of American Football team the San Diego Fleet will host a community drive Monday to collect donations of food, blood and necessities like clothes and soap.The event is the Fleet's first-ever donation drive since beginning play in the AAF in February. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - No charges were filed Wednesday against a 19-year-old man arrested along with three teenage girls for allegedly attacking and severely beating a 56-year-old man near Petco Park.The investigation is continuing into the case against 19-year-old Dominick Wells in connection with the attack that left Edward Leon Starland on life support, said Tanya Sierra, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office.Three girls, ages 14, 15 and 17, also were arrested on suspicion of felony battery, said San Diego police Lt. Matt Dobbs. One of the girls had a detention hearing at Juvenile Court Wednesday.Starland was attacked about 2:10 p.m. last Sunday near the pedestrian bridge adjacent to Petco Park, Dobbs said.Police and paramedics found the victim unresponsive.Investigators determined the victim got into an argument with a group of teenagers and was knocked to the ground, then beaten, the lieutenant said.When witnesses started yelling at the attackers to stop, they fled east on Imperial Avenue, he said.Wells was arrested about 3:15 a.m. the next morning. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An elderly disabled woman was assaulted and seriously injured in downtown San Diego, police said Saturday.The victim, a 73-year-old homeless woman who uses a walker, was attacked near the corner of Fourth Avenue and B Street at 10:10 p.m. Friday, according to Lt. Matt Dobbs of the San Diego Police Department's homicide unit.She was taken to the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery, the lieutenant said. Because of the serious nature of the woman's injuries, investigators from the SDPD's homicide unit were called to the scene."Detectives are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses," Dobbs said. "A man was seen in an altercation with the victim.
