ZURICH, Switzerland, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo and Doris Leuthard, president of the Swiss Confederation, held talks on Sunday and agreed to expand their bilateral cooperation.Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), delivered Chinese President Hu Jintao's regards to Leuthard. He said China will work together with Switzerland to push forward the Sino-Swiss ties.The Chinese and Swiss economies are highly complementary and have large potential in economic cooperation, said Wu. China expects to make joint efforts with Switzerland to strengthen cooperation in such areas as financial service, environmental protection, green economy and low-carbon technology while deepening cooperation in traditional fields, he said.Leuthard highly commended the progress in Sino-Swiss relations in recent years.She said Switzerland, which is one of the earliest western countries to establish diplomatic ties with China, gives great attention to a friendly cooperation with China and is willing to deepen the bilateral ties. Switzerland regards China as an important partner and looks forward to carrying out cooperation in environmental protection, energy-saving and sustainable economic development, she added.She reaffirmed the Swiss government's stance on one-China policy.During the talks, the two leaders also exchanged views on global issues such as financial crisis and climate changes.Wu is here on an official goodwill visit to Switzerland. He is set to leave for Geneva to attend the third World Conference of Speakers of Parliament later on the day. 

BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Tuesday concluded his two-day official visit to Bangladesh and started his trip to Laos, the second leg of his four-nation tour.In Dhaka on Tuesday, Xi met separately with the country's opposition leader, parliament speaker and president.In talks with Khaleda Zia, chairperson of Bangladesh's main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Xi lauded what Zia has done to promote the Sino-Bangladeshi relationship.He said China appreciates very much Bangladesh's precious support on issues concerning China's core interests like the issues of Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.He said China supports Bangladesh's economic development and will continue to do its best to help the south Asian country.Zia said China is a close and friendly neighbor of Bangladesh. "Bangladesh always regards China as an important strategic partner," she said.Talking with Bangladeshi Parliament Speaker Abdul Hamid, Xi spoke highly of the comprehensive development of bilateral relations since both countries established diplomatic relations 35 years ago.He reiterated China's commitment to work with Bangladesh to push forward their comprehensive partnership of cooperation. BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo said here Thursday that the country would push forward friendly relations with the Islamic world.Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks when meeting with the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.Wu said China and all Islamic countries, as developing nations, enjoyed a long history of bilateral exchanges.China has always valued the traditional friendship with Islamic nations, Wu said, expressing appreciation for those countries' firm support on issues concerning China's core interests.China also has always supported Islamic nations on issues related to their concerns, and would work with them to increase exchanges and cooperation in politics, economy, trade and culture, he noted.Wu also briefed Ihsanoglu on China's national and religious policies and on the social and economic situation of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.Ihsanoglu said friendly exchanges between the Islamic world and China not only accorded with fundamental interests of all parties, but also promoted human progress.The OIC was opposed to terrorism, separatism and extremism in any form, Ihsanoglu said, noting that the Islamic world would work with China to carry forward the traditional friendship and increase exchanges and cooperation.Besides Beijing, Ihsanoglu and his delegation would also visit the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Xinjiang.

BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) -- China publicized regulations on natural disaster relief on Wednesday.The regulations, which make clear the responsibility of governments in disaster relief work, will take effect Sept. 1, 2010.According to the regulations, leaders of governments at all levels will be held accountable for relief work, and the nationwide relief work is to be commanded by the national disaster reduction authority.The regulations also stipulates that governments above county level are responsible for mapping out emergency response plans, providing transportation and communication facilities to disaster relief work, designating emergency shelters and training disaster relief teams.Further, the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council issued a statement Wednesday, further clarifying the regulations.The statement notes that China is a natural disaster prone country. Over the past two decades, natural disasters have killed 4,300 people each year.The central government has allocated over 5 billion yuan (737 million US dollars) of annual relief fund during the past five years.The statement goes on to say that disaster relief work is still plagued by several problems, such as slack supervision over donations and other concerns.To address this problem, the regulations stipulate that donations could only be used in relief work. Governments at all levels, including grass-roots communities, should make public all information about donors, amounts of donations, and its specific usage.The regulations also stipulates that governments at all levels must devise a supervisory system dealing with complaints and whistle blowers, to prevent abuse of disaster relief donations and materials.

BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang stressed the quality of economic growth and the transformation of the economic development mode during an inspection tour in Shandong Province from July 8 to 10.He said the country should strike a balance between keeping a stable and relatively fast economic growth, adjust the economic structure and manage inflation expectations while consolidating a continuing recovery momentum.When visiting a local granary, Li asked farmers and granary workers about grain quality and purchase prices.He said China sustained a bumper summer crop for the seventh year in a row this year and has abundant supplies of grain, which is conducive to managing inflation expectations, promoting agricultural production and raising farmers' income.When visiting local manufacturers, a logistics center and a wharf, he hoped that they continue to expand their presence in the global market.The service industry involves many sectors and can generate lots of jobs, and China has a great potential in developing the service industry, Li said.He asked local companies to adapt to market changes, raise profitability and accelerate the development of the province's service industry.Li said some uncertainties still remain in the national and global economies, although the national economy is heading towards the goal of macroeconomic regulation.He added that the country should maintain continuity and stability in macroeconomic policies and make macro control more flexible and better-targeted during the rest of the year to promote stable and relatively fast economic growth in the long run.
