SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego Unified School District said Wednesday that they are coordinating and organizing with student leaders for March 14th, when students from across the country are planning for a walkout.The walkout is in response to the Florida shooting.  The student-led demonstration is meant to urge lawmakers to pass stronger gun control laws.“We support student's voice,” School Board President Kevin Beiser said in news conference Wednesday. The protests are planned at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14th.  The district wants students to help plan events at all participating schools, which are mostly high schools, according to Andrew Sharp, a district spokesman.It will be up to those school communities to come up with a plan.  Sharp says, in general, the district would rather the students keep activities on campus in so-called “teach-ins” as opposed to “walk-outs but the superintendent has said, “students will not be disciplined for participation in planned peaceful demonstrations occurring at schools.” District heads will be meeting with student leaders from “Equity Coalition” on Wednesday, March 7 to hear their ideas on the protest. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Washington Nationals will look to a former San Diego State Aztec to lead them into Game 2 of the 2019 World Series.Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg takes the mound Wednesday night against the Astros, dueling with Houston ace Justin Verlander. He's just done so much for our program, you know, being involved with our guys. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The plaques at the Hillcrest pride monument have been restores after being vandalized in February. According to the Hillcrest Business Association, the repairs cost roughly ,500. All the money came through donations from local businesses, the association said. The plaques were vandalized in early February. Pictures show faces and the pride flag scratched out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The public will be able to weigh in on the proposed placement of a sexually violent predator (SVP) in north San Diego County.Earlier this month, the state’s Department of State Hospitals (DSH) proposed Joshua Cooley be placed at a property in Pauma Valley.On Oct. 9, at 8:30 a.m., a hearing on Cooley's placement will be available for viewing at https://www.humboldt.courts.ca.gov/.Those interested in submitting a public comment for the hearing can do so between Sept. 15-23.
