SAN DIEGO (CNS) - After hours of public input and deliberation, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved a .5 billion operating budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year.Previously .4 billion, the revised budget reflects an additional .2 million in recent funding requests, including million for rental assistance, millions of dollars in road projects and an office dedicated to racial equality.Tuesday's vote, held via teleconference, follows two public hearings earlier in August, when board members heard funding requests from residents.Normally held in late June, the budget approval process was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Supervisors thanked Chief Administrative Officer Helen-Robbins Meyer and her staff for crafting a budget during an especially challenging time.``Putting together a budget is a big job,'' said board Chairman Greg Cox.According to a summary provided by Robbins-Meyer's office, the county is spending .5 billion on health & human services, billion for public safety, 6 million on finance and general government, 2 million on land use and environment, 9 million on various items and 5 million on capital improvements.``I think we can be proud that we have a good, solid and well-balanced budget,'' Supervisor Dianne Jacob said.Supervisor Jim Desmond credited staff members for ``for fighting to do the right thing. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Military officials are preparing to transfer the remains of seven U.S. Marines -- including one from Montebello -- and a Navy sailor to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware over the next few days to be prepared for burial.The remains were recovered Friday after the Marines went missing near San Clemente Island when their amphibious vehicle sank during a training mission last month."Our hearts and thoughts of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit are with the families of our recovered Marines and Sailor," said Col. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Just after midnight, a full rail closure between Oceanside and San Diego to accommodate work along the passenger and freight rail line will go into effect and continue until 5 a.m. Monday.The closure will affect four rail services operating on the San Diego segment of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor: North County Transit District COASTER, Metrolink, Amtrak and the freight carrier BNSF.On Monday, riders are encouraged to plan for increased travel time as trains could be delayed.Full rail closures are routinely scheduled to advance rail construction and ensure worker safety. During the upcoming closure, construction activities are planned for the Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization project and the Mid-Coast Trolley project.In Del Mar, stabilization work continues on the bluffs. Crews will weld and test tieback anchors along previously placed support columns and pour concrete for retaining wall installation on the upper bluffs near 12th Street. Crews will also place concrete panels along previously installed support columns and backfill the area on the upper bluffs north of Torrey Pines State Beach.Officials said the Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization 4 project to repair drainage infrastructure and stabilize portions of the 1.6 miles of coastal bluffs is scheduled to be complete this fall.In San Diego, ongoing construction activities are planned throughout the Mid-Coast Trolley corridor. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man climbed through a window of a Pacific Beach home Monday morning and attacked a woman in her bedroom before fleeing, police said.Dispatchers received a call around 5:15 a.m. from the victim, who reported that she found a man in her bedroom after he apparently entered through a window of her home on Grand Avenue near Olney Street, San Diego police public-affairs Officer Billy Hernandez said.The woman also reported that the man had attacked her, but she was able to get away and lock herself in her roommate's bedroom before calling police, Hernandez said.Officers arrived and searched the home, but found no one inside. Paramedics treated the victim for minor injuries, including a bloody nose, but she declined transport to a hospital, Hernandez said.No detailed description of the intruder was immediately available. 852
