As White House advisers and congressional leaders spar over the next round of stimulus funds, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he still has some issues with the Senate GOP's proposal released yesterday.On the mind of so many Americans are stimulus checks, unemployment and the return to school.But when asked specifically what he disagreed with, Trump punted. Despite a Trump administration push for the return of in-person learning, a number of school districts across the US have announced plans to begin the 2020-21 school year virtually. On Tuesday, Ohio’s largest district Columbus City Schools said they will start the year off virtually.Trump has said that federal funds should only go to schools that are open.Meanwhile, the next round of stimulus is being debated on Capitol Hill. While it appears there is agreement between the White House, House Democrats and Senate Republicans on providing a second round of ,200 checks for most Americans, there is intense debate on unemployment. Last week, millions of unemployed Americans stopped receiving a 0 weekly supplement to unemployment checks. Authorities are using the recent arrest of a registered sex offender as a reminder for parents to monitor their children’s candy this Halloween season.Detectives with the Santa Barbara County Special Investigations Bureau and the Cannabis Compliance Team pulled over a driver Wednesday afternoon in Santa Maria, California.The driver was identified as Christian Sandez of Santa Maria. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says inside his van they found “a large amount of packaged cannabis infused candy, processed cannabis flower, concentrated cannabis and cannabis vape products, which he possessed for the purpose of sales.”The 28-year-old, who is on active parole, does not have a California Bureau of Cannabis Control retail or sales license, according to the sheriff’s office.Sandez was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, which is a felony, and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail where he is being held without bail for violating his parole, the sheriff’s office says.The sheriff’s office says cannabis-infused products “are intentionally packaged to resemble normal candy and can easily be mistaken” and they are encouraging parents to monitor their children’s candy, especially around Halloween.This story originally reported on KSBY.com. 1282

AUSTIN, Texas — A Texas sheriff has been indicted on charges accusing him of destroying or concealing video in an investigation into the death in custody of a Black man, Javier Ambler, that was filmed by the police reality TV series “Live PD.”Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody was booked into his jail Monday on a ,000 bond and released a short time later. The sheriff’s charge is a third-degree felony that is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.Williamson County prosecutors have been investigating possible evidence tampering following Ambler’s death in March 2019.The county's sheriff’s deputies repeatedly used stun guns on the 40-year-old man, despite his pleas that he was sick and couldn’t breathe.A report obtained by The Associated Press shows Ambler’s death was ruled a homicide and noted it could have been “justifiable.” An autopsy showed the man died of congestive heart failure and hypertensive cardiovascular disease associated with morbid obesity “in combination with forcible restraint."Body-cam video of the deadly incident has surfaced, but another that was shot by “Live PD” crews has been destroyed.A&E, which aired the now-canceled show, has said it didn’t keep the footage after it was informed that the initial investigation into Ambler’s death had closed. The network also has said it wasn’t “asked for the footage or an interview by investigators from law enforcement or the District Attorney’s office.”Court records obtained by The AP show Chody is accused of destroying or concealing recordings “with intent to impair their ability as evidence in the investigation” of Ambler’s death.Chody denies ever tampering with evidence and has accused prosecutors of bringing the case to a grand jury for political reasons. 1765

Bad news: There is a small chance an asteroid will collide with Earth. The good news: Mankind has more than 115 years to prepare for it. According to a Washington Post report, NASA is preparing for possible tactics to deflect the asteroid Bennu, which will approach Earth Sept. 21, 2135. As of today, NASA rates Bennu's chance of striking Earth at one-in-2,700.The asteroid is roughly 1,600 feet in diameter, and would not be an Earth-ending event if it struck. But that doesn't mean it couldn't cause damage, especially if it struck near a populated area. Bennu is likely dozens of times larger than the object that struck near Chelyabinsk, Russia in 2013, causing hundreds of injuries, and thousands of broken windows. The event caused nearly million in damage to roughly 7,000 buildings. The 2013 event shows that even small objects are capable of causing massive damage. In 2016, NASA launched OSIRIS-REx, which will land on the asteroid and bring back samples. The information gathered could help NASA decide what steps it would take to deflect the asteroid. According to the Washington Post, NASA is working on a plan called the Hypervelocity Asteroid Mitigation Mission for Emergency Response, or HAMMER. NASA's HAMMER plan could involve using a nine-ton bulk impactor to push Bennu out of Earth's path. Another idea would be straight out of the movie "Armageddon," using a nuclear-type device to move the asteroid. A NASA engineer involved in the study told the Washington Post all of these ideas are theoretical. “We’re doing these design studies to prepare ourselves, so if we do find a threatening object, we’re better prepared to deal with it,” Brent W.
