SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A surveillance photo released by the FBI and San Diego Police Tuesday may help them find the man who robbed a Clairemont bank.The white man, in his late 20s or early 30s, demanded cash from a teller at the Wells Fargo Bank inside the Vons grocery store at 4725 Clairemont Drive in Clairemont Town Centere on December 30.Police said the man used a note and no weapon was seen or used.The teller gave the man cash and he walked away.Investigators describe the man as about 5’11” with an average build. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, white shirt, red shorts, black sneakers and a baseball cap at the time of the robbery.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police. 713

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman died Friday morning after she was hit by a vehicle while walking in a Mira Mesa crosswalk.The victim, who has yet to be identified, was crossing the 9200 block of Capricorn Way in a crosswalk at about 9:45 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle, San Diego Police said. The woman, believed to be in her 40s, died at the scene.Police later found the driver, a 31-year-old man, and his vehicle, a black 2004 Nissan Titan. Police said the driver was making a right turn from Black Mountain Rd. onto Capricorn Wy. when he fatally struck the woman with his vehicle. SDPD did not say if any arrests have been made. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – An annual toy giveaway for San Diego military families looked different this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the reason for the event remains the same.For this year’s Operation Holiday Joy, the San Diego Armed Services YMCA chose hundreds of local military families who needed a little extra help this holiday season.On Wednesday, at the Murphy Canyon Chapel on Santo Road, the YMCA handed out boxes of gift-wrapped toys, and even bicycles, to more than 1,000 kids.Families were given books, a mini Christmas tree, and a gift card.Tim Ney, executive director of the San Diego Armed Services YMCA, said that now more than ever it’s important to support military families, as they too must deal with the additional challenges brought on by the pandemic.“Spouse employment is 30 percent, it’s really high. The online education and we’re doing the Achievement Academy where we’re taking the kids during the day. And doing the online learning, then we do STEM activities with them afterwards,” said Ney.It’s a little bit of extra help these military families are extremely thankful for.Emily, who is a military wife, told ABC 10News, “We’re so grateful and we’re thankful and blessed that everyone is so generous to give military families support, especially during this pandemic. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A scary looking fish with dagger-like teeth was discovered Wednesday on the shores of Dog Beach in Ocean Beach. The four-foot-long fish isn't something people usually find while fishing off a local pier or even walking along the coast. And before imaginations run wild, it isn't a monster — well, not quite.The fish is a lancetfish, which typically call the dark depths of the ocean home. There, the fish feed on jellyfish, micro plastic, tiny deepwater organisms, and even smaller lancetfish, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).RELATED: Rattlesnake season officially begins in Southern California(There's the monster aspect.)With sharp fangs and prehistoric spikes, the fish appears to look like an ancient creature from the time of dinosaurs.That may or may not be the case. Not a lot is known about the mysterious fish, according to NOAA, save for information on their diets and places they call home. And despite their place in the ocean's depths, fisherman may sometimes catch more lancetfish than tuna or mahi. NOAA says the fish is actually the most common bycatch in their fisheries, besides blue sharks.You may not want to try grilling up the fish either.
