After gaining 30 additional pounds, Sherman decided surgery was best. “I tell anybody that I talk to that, that day is one of the top ten days of my life,” she says. Maintaining her weight around 143 pounds now, Sherman found her voice through the hashtag #iamabariatricpatient. “Many patients were ashamed to talk about the surgery and didn’t want to share that they had surgery with friends or family,” Sherman says. A 25-year-old mother was arrested in Mississippi after two of her three kids drowned when her locked vehicle rolled into a creek on Saturday. Leland police say they were called to check out the scene around 5:45 p.m. on March 9 after someone reported a Nissan Pathfinder floating in Deer Creek with kids trapped inside. The Leland Fire Chief and others had already found the vehicle and tried to break the windows to get the children out. They were only able to safely rescue one of the kids, 2-year-old Raelynn Johnson. Police say a dive team located the vehicle, which had drifted further downstream, about two hours later. The bodies of 4-year-old Steve Smith and 1-year-old Rasheed Johnson Jr. were located in the car. The mother, Jenea Monique Payne, reportedly told police she left the kids in the car while she went into a Stop-N-Shop store. She walked out to find the vehicle had rolled into the water. Payne was booked into jail on Monday and charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of child neglect. (CNN) -- Vice President Mike Pence made an unannounced trip to Iraq to visit US troops ahead of Thanksgiving, landing in the country Saturday amid violent anti-government protests.Pence visited the Al Asad Air Force Base in western Iraq, where he was greeted by the US Ambassador to Iraq and several military officers.He received a classified briefing from the commanding officer on the base and spoke by phone with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi.On the call, Pence told Mahdi that he traveled to Iraq in part to "extend gratitude to the men and women (of the US military) serving in your country," according to the TV travel pool with the vice president.Mike Pence and his wife Karen Pence later served the troops a Thanksgiving lunch, with the Vice President serving turkey and Mrs. Pence handing out yams.As service members came up to them, the Pences asked each where they were from and thanked them for their service.Vice President Pence then delivered remarks to about 150 service members in a hanger.
