A highly anticipated audit of the city's water-billing practices could be delayed. City Auditor Eduardo Luna made the comments Thursday at the city's first public hearing after hundreds of residents complained about mysteriously high water bills. "Some of the key billing data that we're looking for may be delayed, they're looking about providing that to us in about two months, which could potentially have an impact when we complete this audit," Luna said. The city's environment committee - which includes four City Council members - held the meeting in order to question public utilities officials over the water bills.San Diegans have complained for months about spiking bills - some more than ,000. A local mom has joined Tennessee lawmakers to back a bill that would require a prescription bottle design change in order to save young lives.Betty Mason of Green Hills, Tennessee lost her daughter, Katy to an opioid overdose in May 2016. "Great IQ, great student, great athlete. She had everything in the world going for her and it...her future was bright and it came to an abrupt halt with this," Mason said.Doctors told Mason that Katy was in the hospital on life support after the apparent overdose.Mason said her daughter started experimenting with prescription drugs after eighth grade with friends.She said for five years her daughter's big smile would fade during her time in and out of three treatment facilities.Mason hoped a state proposed bill, Pilfering Prevention Act, would help curb Tennessee's opioid epidemic.The act would allow prescription bottles for drugs considered severely psychologically or physically addicting to have a 4-number combination lock.Each patient would be assigned a pin number to unlock the container.Dr. Sterling Haring with Vanderbilt University Medical Center contributed to a John Hopkins report which recommended updating prescription packaging. The update would apply to only Schedule II prescriptions, meaning substances that have a high potential for abuse which may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.Most prescription bottles haven't changed for 50 years."But to me if your boat is sinking, the first step is to plug the hole and then you start bailing the water out. A group of Pac-12 football players says it won't practice or play until its concerns about playing during the COVID-19 pandemic and other racial and economic issues in college sports are addressed. “We believe a football season under these conditions would be reckless and put us at needless risk,” the players said in their news release. “We will not play until there is real change that is acceptable to us.”The players posted a statement on The Players' Tribune website and on social media and sent out a news release. One of the players tells The Associated Press that more than 400 of his peers throughout the Pac-12 have been communicating about the issues they are raising. The players are concerned about the risks of COVID-19 and think the conference and NCAA lack transparency, uniformity and adequate enforcement infrastructure. The news release listed the names of 13 Pac-12 players, including Oregon star safety Jevon Holland.The NCAA has released guidelines for COVID-19 testing and other health and safety protocols to be used by schools, and Power Five conferences — the Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12, ACC and SEC — are finalizing their own similar recommendations.The Pac-12 also announced Friday that 20 hours per week of mandatory team activities for football, including weight training, meetings and unpadded walk-through practices, will be permitted to begin Monday. A candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives in Maine has apologized after taking to Twitter to attack a student activist in Parkland.Leslie Gibson, a Republican, originally tweeted "There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you're frothing at the mouth moonbat." Gibson wrote this about 18-year-old Emma Gonzalez.Gonzalez has been at the forefront of those speaking out following a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, 2018 in Parkland, Florida. She is leading the fight to make assault rifles harder to obtain.The candidate's attack tweets were deleted, and Gibson tweeted an apology, saying, "You are doing work that is important to you. I would like to extend my hand in friendship and to understand you."Gibson had been running unopposed for the seat in the 57th District in Maine.
