(KGTV) — Chula Vista Police have made an arrest in connection with the body of a woman found in a field in August.Police said 28-year-old Vanesa Gastellu was arrested for the murder of Christina Garcia on Aug. 5. Garcia's body was discovered in a field near the 3100 block of Main Street by a passerby. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Health officials are working to notify people possibly exposed to tuberculosis over several months at Southwestern College, according to County News Center. The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency says the exposure period was from August 20 to November 8, 2018. The college says it will provide no-cost testing to identified students, faculty and staff from December 3 to 14 at Southwestern College Student Health Services. Tuberculosis is transmitted from person-to-person through indoor air during prolonged contact with an infectious individual. Symptoms include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. “The initial infection usually has no symptoms, so we recommend testing for all those exposed to assure they are not infected,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “For any infected individuals, early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent the infectious form of the disease.”For more information call Southwestern Students Health Services at 619-482-6354 or the County TB Control Program at 619-692-8621. 1122

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- As businesses fight to survive during the most restrictive purple tier, one industry says they feel forgotten.“We don’t seem to be able to move forward,” said Alita Fernandez, marketing director for Play City in Eastlake.Play City is an indoor playground full of inflatable jumpers and bounce houses. It was used to being filled with kids and their families—now, it sits empty.Fernandez said they planned to reopen by January with increased safety and sanitation measures. However, with most of their employees temporarily laid off, the county in the purple tier, and the PPP loans gone, the future does not look good.Indoor playgrounds will not be able to reopen until the least restrictive yellow tier, per state guidelines. At that time, capacity can only be at 50 percent.“I don’t know if Play City will stand, if we will be able to keep our doors open or to open back,” Fernandez said, fighting tears. “We do not know.”She said in the meantime, the bills keep piling up.Fernandez is hopeful a vaccine can help turn things around. She urges government leaders to look at all industries as they struggle through this pandemic.“Maybe they already have all grown up children,” Fernandez said. “Maybe they can go ahead and turn around and look at us. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Four people were displaced when a fire damaged their South Bay home Sunday morning, authorities said.Dispatchers were alerted at about 9:20 a.m. to a fire at a house near the intersection of Madden and Donax avenues, according to the San Diego Police Department. The area is just west of Beyer Boulevard.Firefighters found a small fire in the attic, and were able to get everyone out of the house and extinguish the flames, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department official said. The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. The Red Cross was called to assist with finding shelter for the home's occupants, the Fire-Rescue official said. 662

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista’s Police Chief and a city councilman hosted a public safety meeting in a community where most would think safety isn’t an issue.  Chief Roxana Kennedy and Councilman John McCann met with several residents Wednesday night at the Montevalle Community Center.“I feel the balance is like this:  Housing, people, lights, traffic, less parking and police protection and presence are here,” said Chula Vista resident Dianne Farsetta while holding one hand up and one hand down. “It is a little scary.  We want to be in a safe environment.”Community groups on Facebook and Nextdoor appear to post more instances of crimes throughout the communities of Eastlake and Otay Ranch. Farsetta said the city is growing faster than its police force.However, Councilman McCann says the crime in his district is still less than half the crime level in other Chula Vista districts.  Additionally, McCann said Chula Vista is still one of the safest cities of its size in the country.  Nevertheless, McCann and Chief Kennedy listened to the community Wednesday night.“We want to make sure that we’re working with our police and our community to continue to make it as safe as it is,” he said.Farsetta and several others want to see more police on the streets and a police substation on the city’s eastern side.  Headquarters is on the western side of the city.McCann said the city’s immediate need is more officers on patrol.  He added he wants a substation but that the estimated million price tag is too much for Chula Vista. 1598
