CANBERRA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met here Friday with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to discuss the development of relations between their two countries and issues of common concern.     At the meeting, Li said that a healthy and stable China-Australia relationship was beneficial to the core interests of the two peoples and would therefore help promote stability and prosperity in the region and the world as a whole. BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao played a major role in ensuring the success of the meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by putting forward proposals to tackle the financial crisis and enhance regional cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Sunday. BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Qingdao Haier Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese household electric appliance producer, announced Thursday evening that its net profit in the third quarter rose 48.88 percent year on year to 300.7 million yuan (44.03 million U.S. dollars).     Its net profit in the first three quarters increased 28.7 percent from a year earlier to 966.4 million yuan, the firm said in a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.     The eastern Shandong Province-based company attributed the net profit hike to reduced inventory and improved assets quality.     Equities of the Shanghai-listed firm added 1.28 percent to 18.17 yuan per share Thursday.

ROME, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Monday proposed a four-point action plan aimed at eradicating world hunger in his address to a world summit on food security.     Stressing the fact that the financial crisis has worsened the plight of the poor and the hungry, the Chinese vice premier said the summit, hosted at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters here, was "of special significance to world food security, global economic recovery and sustainable development."     In order to overcome the "dual pressure of an international financial crisis and a global food crisis," the first suggestion of the Chinese government was to increase input and raise food production by investing more in agriculture, build up the capability to resist natural disasters and strive for greater self-sufficiency. During the three-day event more than 60 heads of state and government will gather to discuss measures to eradicate hunger and ensure food security.

GENEVA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- China will maintain the stability of its Renminbi (RMB) exchange rate all along, which does good for the world economic recovery, Commerce Minister Chen Deming said on Monday.     China's exchange rate reform has continued smoothly, and the value of RMB has risen by some 20 percent against the U.S. dollar since 2005, Chen told reporters in Geneva, where he is attending a ministerial conference of the World Trade Organization.     Despite the impact of the global financial crisis and all kinds of other difficulties, the Chinese government has actively tried to boost domestic consumption and stimulate imports, Chen said.
