(KGTV) — Thousands of passengers remained stranded on a cruise ship off the San Francisco coastline Saturday, after 21 people aboard tested positive for the new coronavirus this week.The Grand Princess cruise ship said they are awaiting direction from state and local health officials about where they will be allowed to port. (KGTV) — Newly released video shows the moment a Portland high school coach disarmed a student who brought a loaded shotgun to school in May.Keanon Lowe, Parkrose High School's head football and track coach, was in a classroom full of students when the gunman, identified as Angel Granados Dias, came in with shotgun on May 17, 2019, according to Portland police.In the video, Lowe brings Dias into a school hallway after appearing to disarm the student. Lowe is seen holding the shotgun before handing it off to another staff member. The coach continues to hold the student and embrace him in a hug, as the staff member leaves with the firearm and students flee from the classroom.Lowe, a former Oregon Ducks football player and NFL coach, says he lunged for the gun with both hands inside the classroom when he realized what was happening.The coach said he told Dias he was there for him and that his life was worth saving. Investigators say Dias was suffering a mental health crisis and only intended to hurt himself, Portland ABC-affiliate KATU reported."Then it was just me and that student. It was a real emotional time. It was emotional for him, it was emotional for me," Lowe told KATU in May. "In that time, I felt compassion for him. A 60-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday morning in Tampa's Seminole Heights area, the fourth such death in what police say is a string of unsolved killings in that neighborhood within the past month."It is all in the probably 10-block, 15-block area," Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn told CNN sister network HLN on Tuesday. "And so we're just going to do our good police work and hopefully get a break."Ronald Felton was shot in the back while crossing the street just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, police said. He became the fourth victim in a string of killings that has vexed investigators who remain desperate for clues.A witness to the shooting provided a description of the suspect, Tampa police chief Brian Dugan said. "When I spoke to her, she said if our officer had been five seconds earlier, he would have been able to stop it," he said.Dugan described the suspect as a black male between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches with a thin build and a light complexion. He was wearing all black and a black baseball cap and armed with a large black pistol, police said. (KGTV) -- Rios Elementary School in the Cajon Valley Union School District is one of only a few districts that took advantage of the state waiver program to reopen for in-person learning this fall and is the largest in the state to qualify for one.More than 200 students attend Rios in-person, five days a week.Principal Liz Loether says despite low case numbers, they're seeing the effects of Covid, and they're trying their best to help students cope as they get back to school, but still face the challenges presented by the pandemic.Loether says those symptoms are showing up as social-emotional difficulties, reactions to frustration, levels of patience, and learning loss.At Rios they've leveraged the resource of extra space to spread out their more than two hundred kids. They have teachers rotate instead of kids to minimize contact outside cohorts.Another resource is technology. Rios was the first computer science elementary school in the country, and several years ago, the superintendent made it a priority for each of the 17-thousand students in CVUSD to have a Chromebook computer.It proved to be crucial foresight when the pandemic left many other districts scrambling to get tablets and computers into students' hands.It also meant none of the money schools got from the government was needed to buy computers."It did give Cajon Valley an advantage," says Board of Trustees Vice-President Jim Miller. Miller also says to qualify for the waiver to reopen, significant planning and coordination were required, with parents and with the teachers' union.Both Miller and the superintendent, Dr. David Miyashira, talked about trust and a sense of the community "buying-in" to the push to go back to school in person this fall.In CVUSD schools, two out of three students qualify for free or reduced-cost meals, and many of the parents are frontline or essential workers.Many Cajon Valley schools are open in a hybrid model, but there are several like Rios which are open five days.
