He had double pneumonia and COVID," said Hill. After two weeks on oxygen, Kemp was placed on a ventilator and sedated. He developed a blood clot in his leg and kidney issues. On November 1, Kemp, a father of two and grandfather of three, passed away."Just glad he's not in pain anymore," said a tearful Hill.Hill says her father was kind, generous and well-liked."He definitely had a huge smile and huge heart for everybody," said Hill.Hill says Kemp worked with the North County Transit District for the past decade, including the last five years for the contractor that provides security on the Sprinter train."He loved his job. This virus can leave behind a family that can’t say goodbye in person, couldn't get hold their hand. This can happen to anybody," said Hill.Kemp did not have any underlying health issues.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help Kemp's family with expenses.A spokesperson for Kemp's employer, Bombardier Transportation issue this following statement:"We are deeply saddened by the recent loss of one of the members of our services team at North County Transit District. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Students at El Camino High School have a chance to put their stamp on pop culture. They're designing shoes for the Vans Custom Culture competition.El Camino High School is one of just 500 schools in the country to be picked for the contest. More than 200 students submitted designs at the school, but only two will advance to the national competition.Sophomore Isiah Duran is one of the students whose design was chosen."I basically did what I thought was Oceanside," he says. "The pier, sunsets, the beach."The students could make designs based on two categories, "Local Flavor" and "Off the Wall.""It resonates with the younger culture," says El Camino Art Teacher Diego De La Luz. "It resonates with activities that range from biking to skateboarding and really just the Southern California vibe which Oceanside is all about."The winner will receive ,000 for their school's art department. Vans will also endow a scholarship for a student from the winning school to attend the Laguna Art Institute.De La Luz says the students will decide how to spend the money at the school if they win. He adds that ,000 would provide a big boost to the art department, especially as districts tighten their budgets and art programs are often among the first to be cut."Having that opportunity for the cash prize would cushion some of our artistic ambitions for the students," says De La Luz.Students say it's pretty amazing to try and design for a company they already love."I'm wearing Vans right now," says Junior Aymee Locke. "If I had my own design on a shoe and I get to show that off to everyone, I would totally do that. I think that's super cool."The schools have to turn in their designs by April 16. Public voting takes place from April 22 to May 3. The top 5 designs will be announced May 6-10 with the winners announced sometime between May 13 and 17. 1892

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Lifeguards saw a lot more people up and down San Diego's beaches, and with that, a lot more rule breakers."It’s definitely the start of summer, we’ve been pretty busy this weekend," Del Mar Lifeguard Chief Jon Edelbrock said.In Oceanside 10News saw a couple families staked out under umbrellas brought from home, just feet away a man was buried in the sand. All of which is not yet allowed under county orders.Right now you are allowed to exercise on the beach, walk or jog. In the water people can swim, surf, boat and fish. You cannot have gatherings, play sports or sit on the beach.Edelbrock said most of the crowd is following the rules, "probably 80% are coming down with good intentions."That other 20% then has to be contacted by police or lifeguards trying to enforce orders to stop the spread of the coronavirus."Their [lifeguards'] primary function is to facilitate safety out in the ocean to watch the water, watch over our kids and make rescues and do first aide and that kind of thing. Daily we’re making 1,000 extra contacts for people not considering the current rule set," Edelbrock said today's water conditions weren't great, making it more important to keep an eye seaward. In Pacific Beach a neighbor snapped a photo of a woman holding her dog, standing on the closed boardwalk while an officer was writing something. The neighbor said it was a ticket.Friday law enforcement said they would be out Memorial Day weekned enforcing the eased restrictions."It’s doing a disservice for those trying to do the right thing," Edelbrock said it also negatively affects those working to enforce the rules and puts them at risk.Chris Vanos, chief steward of Teamsters 911, said he's seen fights break out when lifeguards encourage people to follow the rules. He said lifeguards also took a lot of verbal abuse at the beginning of the pandemic and easing of restrictions.Edelbrock hopes as more people come to the beach this summer that we all do our part to keep everyone safe."I don’t want this to turn into a larger public health concern," he said. 2094
