(KGTV) -- Tuesday, SpaceX launchged several satellites into orbit that will replace a satellite network and monitor climate change. The Iridium-6/GRACE-FO satellites were launched just before 1 p.m. from Vandenberg Air Force Base. For this particular mission, SpaceX launched five Iridium NEXT satellites as part of the company's campaign to replace the world's largest commercial satellite network. A total of eight Iridium NEXT launches are planned with the company that will send into orbit 75 new satellites. Also on board the Falcon 9 rocket will be satellites that will monitor the movement of earth's mass for NASA and the German Research Centre for Geosciences.Watch the launch in the player below:  775

(KGTV) --There is another effort to tackle our housing problems in California in the form of Proposition 21.Prop. 21, also known as the Rental Affordability Act, would allow local governments to have more authority over rent control on residential properties over 15 years old.It would exempt individuals who own two homes or less from new rent-control policies.Kimberly Ellis has been renting her current Santee apartment for three years. With rent—plus bills and food—she said everything “is just so expensive.”With her husband facing medical issues and her rent increasing every year, she said rent control is needed. “I live on a budget. It’s hard when the rent goes up,” Ellis said.A television ad for Yes on 21 is sponsored by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The organization has committed major funding to the cause.Pt. Loma Nazarene University’s Chief Economist Lynn Reaser said the advertisement “doesn’t even tell us what Proposition 21 even does.”She clarified it for voters.“It allows local governments to set their own rent control measures that would be different from what the state now has, which basically caps rent increases at 5 percent plus rate of inflation,” Reaser said. She said the ad got two facts right—homelessness is increasing and unemployment is high.According to the California Employment Development Department, unemployment is more than 13 percent. While it is lower than the record from the start of this pandemic, it is still above the mark set in 2010 during the great recession.The AIDS Healthcare Foundation launched a similar rent control ballot measure a couple years ago, which failed.According to the Legislative Analyst’s Office, it is likely state and local entities will lose money if Prop. 21 passes. (KGTV) - The sound of gunfire was met with fear and disbelief by students at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita Thursday. Two students died and three others were injured on campus, officials said. In the hours following the shooting on campus, the teenage survivors shared their emotional stories. “It was very scary; we ran, we heard the one shot and four after and we just started running,” said a female student. “All I heard was all these kids running and just screaming and calling their parents; it was very sad.” RELATED: Santa Clarita high school shooting: 2 killed, 3 hurt; Suspected shooter in 'grave' condition “It was like a balloon pop, super loud, and everyone started running and it was really scary,” said a boy who had been outside the school when the shooting happened. His concern was for his sister, who had arrived on campus early for choir rehearsal. She texted him that she was safe, but the shooting had happened close to her. "I'm just not gonna forget it," said a girl as her mother clutched her outside the school.Other students shared the experience of running away from campus. “So we were waiting outside of the locker room cause it wasn’t open yet, and all of a sudden we just we were with all of our friends and we heard the gunshots and we were, ‘Let’s go, let’s run.' We ran through the field, we went through the gate cause it was open and we had to go underneath the pipeline so we literally crawled underneath the pipeline. And there were construction workers and they like, helped us get through the hill and into the neighborhood, and we just kept walking until we got to the park.” Some of the children sought refuge in the first moments of the crisis with a man who lives near the school. “Coming out of my house to go get my coffee and I saw all kind of kids running up the street, screaming, crying, yelling. And it really saddened my heart, you know. And they were saying, ‘can we go in your house’ and there must have been 20 of them in my house. We just all kept running, and we were all helping each other, like ‘oh, do you have a ride, do you have a ride’ because it was just like a big group of us running through this neighborhood, trying to get away. Everybody helped each other; I was actually really surprised because I thought people would just panic and push people out of the way but everybody was helping each other. Everybody worked as a community to help each other like these kids,” said a female student.The survivors who sheltered in place at the school were evacuated on buses and reunited with their parents. 2816
