WASHINGTON — The White House has announced a ban on travel to the U.S. from Brazil due to the spread of coronavirus in Latin America’s hardest-hit country.Press secretary Kayleigh McEnany says in a statement Sunday evening that the ban applies to foreign nationals who have been in Brazil in the 14 days before they sought to travel to the United States.McEnany cast it as a move by President Donald Trump “to protect our country.”Trump has already banned travel from the United Kingdom, Europe and China, all of which have been hit hard by the virus. Trump had said last week that he was considering imposing similar restrictions on Brazil.Brazil had reported more than 347,000 COVID-19 cases, second behind the U.S. in the number of infections, according to a Johns Hopkins University count.Brazil also has recorded more than 22,000 deaths, fifth-most in the world. UPDATE JAN. 15: Las Vegas police arrested a woman who they say lied about the suspected gunman. The shooting took place in August of 2019 on Interstate 15 near Blue Diamond Road. Police say a white van pulled up next to another car and shot the driver. Vegas authorities interviewed Marcia Mingo days after the shooting and believed she lied to officers when they asked her who the shooter was.Mingo has been charged with aiding a felony offender. However, officer still haven't found the shooter.PREVIOUS STORYLas Vegas police reported they have located the van used in a deadly road rage shooting in the Los Angeles area from earlier this month. The white van was in question after Vegas police released a video on Aug. 8 of the vehicle traveling on Interstate 15. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is donating his third-quarter salary to help tackle the nation’s opioid epidemic.A White House official says Trump has given the 0,000 he would be paid in the quarter to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health, which oversees federal public health offices and programs, including the surgeon general’s office.The White House says the funds are being earmarked “to continue the ongoing fight against the opioid crisis.”Trump has made tackling the misuse of opioids an administration priority. More than 70,000 Americans died in 2017 from drug overdoses, the bulk of them involving opioids.Trump is required to be paid, but he has pledged to donate his salary while in office to worthy causes.
