San Diego (KGTV) - A San Diego man claims San Diego County Sheriff deputies roughed him up in jail and the incident was caught on camera. He’s calling the deputies' actions an abuse of power.“I’m actually pissed,” said Joshua Strode. “I’m actually very angry.”San Diego State University police arrested Strode back in June for being drunk in public, something he denies.Strode was taken to San Diego Central Jail. He claimed he was inside the first-floor intake area when deputies came at him from all directions.“I kept on trying to tell them, 'You’re hurting me badly, please stop," he said.A video given to Team 10 from inside the jail shows Strode’s encounter with law enforcement. 692

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A new program vows to help buy houses for teachers who are working on making it in San Diego.“It's not huge to a lot of people, but it's more space than we've ever had,” says Amy Noble as she takes us on a tour of the new house that she and her husband, Eric, bought in South Orange County. They’re high school educators and got married years ago, but home ownership seemed impossible for them. “The rent for apartments was so much that we really didn't have a good opportunity to save,” says Amy.RELATED: Making it in San Diego: Key saving steps helped renter buy her first home“We're the only private company right now that's focusing exclusively on educators,” says Nikki Lowy with Landed.Lowy says the company has already helped about 200 educators buy homes in expensive cities like Denver, Los Angeles and Seattle. Now, the company is making its way into San Diego.“[Teachers] are so important to the safety and well being and health of our communities and yet a lot of them don't see a future in the communities,” Lowy adds.Landed reportedly gives educators half the down payment for the house. In exchange, educators share 25 percent of the investment gain or loss with Landed. Educators have 30 years to exit the partnership by selling or refinancing.RELATED: Making It In San Diego: How housing got so expensive“They'll pay back that original investment, so the original half [of] the down payment, plus or minus a portion of the appreciation,” Lowy tells us.The Nobles partnered with Landed and tell 10News that they have no regrets. “Our dream became a reality,” says Eric.Lowy says Landed hopes to eventually help other essential members of the community like nurses, firefighters and police officers. 1742

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local group is teaming up with a non-profit organization to help fight the unemployment rates among young adults in San Diego. Casa Familia came up with the idea to start a coffee cart, training teenagers and 20-year-olds in different skills to run the coffee business. San Ysidro Health Center jumped on board to help with the funding of the project. Ana Melgoza is the Vice President of General Affairs for San Ysidro Health Center. She tells 10News it was an obvious decision."We said 'yes, of course' as soon as Casa Familia approached us with this wonderful and innovative endeavor," Melgoza said.El K-Fe hired six baristas, graduates of Casa Familiar's youth barista training program. The ,000 coffee cart now sits in the central hub of the health center. The baristas and managers are all young adults who have gone through many months of training. Francisco Dominguez is a student at Southwestern College and among the first to join the project."It’s kind of giving hope to the youth that think that they don't have a chance. They have a chance; we all have a chance. I started out like them now I'm looking forward to what the future has and what I can do with this and what we can do as a team," said Dominguez.Dominguez said the project is beneficial for many reasons but mostly for the skills learned at such a young age."Most jobs are 18 and older, so with this internship, it's 14 and older; so high school students: sophomores, freshmen, juniors, seniors in high school, can join the program, can get that job experience they need so once they graduate, they can get that job."The plan is to reinvest proceeds from the first El K-Fe coffee cart to establish more carts and create more youth job and training opportunities.  1820

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A major draw every summer at the San Diego County Fair are animals. From the Swifty Swine pig races to numerous best in show competitions, families have the chance to get up close to livestock every day of the fair.Youth livestock programs, including 4-H and the Future Farmers of America, will provide members the chance to showcase their pets, learn about care and feeding, and teach San Diegans about farm animals during the summer.RELATED: San Diego County Fair: How much will it cost a family of four?Milking demonstrations also give a glimpse of life on the farm for city folk who may not be familiar with the work.Best in show competitions between llamas, goats, cattle, even pigeons also give locals an up-close look at many animals they may only see on a trip to a farm. One of the big draws of the fair is the livestock show open daily. Families routinely walk the aisles lined with cows, sheep, pigs, and more.RELATED: What to know about the 2018 San Diego County FairPerhaps the cutest event of them all is the Swifty Swine pig races. The adorable swines race several times daily, all to capture the coveted Oreo cookie waiting at the finish line. But there's even more animal racing action, in the spirit of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Turkeys will compete to capture a remote-control monster truck packed with turkey treats and worms — yes, worms — will try to be the first to wiggle themselves across their own racing finish line. 1491
