OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 7-Eleven employee waiting for his shift to start jumped into action Wednesday when three employees of a Church’s Chicken were shot in south San Diego County. David Walker, who had been inside the Otay Mesa West restaurant just an hour earlier, was sitting in his car when he heard the gunfire that killed a woman and injured two men. “It sounded like firecrackers and that’s what I thought it was at first, at first two, then it kept going,” Walker said. “It went two, pow pow! And it stopped, then it went again. That’s when I realized something was wrong.” The scene became chaotic as people in the drive-thru sped away from the area while others started shouting and running back inside. RELATED: One dead, two more shot at Church’s Chicken in Otay Mesa WestWalker saw the shooter leave the Church’s Chicken. “He was just booking it; he was out that door as fast as he could get out it.” Walker then focused on a disturbing sight: one of the male employees fell out of the back door, bleeding. “So my concentration went to him and I took my belt off, wrapped it around his arm. He had another hole in him, I tried to plug that until police got here.” While he was giving medical aid, Walker talked with the man, who he described as a South Bay resident in his 50s with three children. “Just telling him - calm his breathing, talk to me about his family, tell me about his kids just to calm his breathing down; he was going to black out a couple times.” Walker believes the man was shot twice, in the arm and armpit. He was able to use skills he learned from his sister and ex-partner, both nurses. “He was bleeding so bad, I just had to do what I had to do.” The victim was able to tell Walker the shooter was a man he had seen around the neighborhood. “I’m from this neighborhood; I’m not really surprised that something like this happened. I’ve only worked here for two and a half months but I’ve been here my whole life,” Walker said. San Diego Police said the man was in stable condition about two hours after the shooting. “If he lived, you know I’m happy. I did what I could do to help somebody,” Walker said. 2155

Police are looking for a man wanted for the disappearance and possible homicide in connection with a two-year-old near Bakersfield, California.Officers initiated an investigation into the disappearance of Ramon Angel Reyes-Chavez, 2, around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday night, police said.During the investigation, detectives developed information leading them to believe that Reyes-Chavez was the victim of a homicide.Detectives identified Kaleb Jordan Kessinger, 20, as a suspect in this case.They attempted to contact him when they saw him driving his car, but he took off about 10:45 p.m. Officers said he later crashed his car near Calloway Drive and Olive Drive.He was last seen running from the area.Officers were on scene in the Kern River Canyon, about three miles in near Democrat Boat Launch, regarding the investigation around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Kessinger for charges which include homicide and felony child abuse.  Kessinger is described as 6'2", 198 lbs, with blonde hair and green eyes.Investigators said they are continuing their search for Ramon Reyes-Chavez and are asking the public to contact the Bakersfield Police Department (661) 327-7111 with any information regarding this case or the whereabouts of Reyes-Chavez or Kessinger.Kessinger was pulled over in 2016 for speeding and was suspected of driving under the influence. PHOENIX — Besides being our best friends, there are plenty of important jobs our dogs can be good at, like assisting people with disabilities, arson investigations and police work.  But is there a way to find out what is on a dog's resume before they go through all of that expensive training?  Researchers at the University of Arizona believe they may have found a solution. It is called the Canine Aptitude Test and it is in the early stages of development. The test is for adult dogs and looks to see if a dog's cognitive behavior will dictate where they would have more success as a working dog. "With assistance dogs that help people with disabilities, only about 50 percent of the dogs who begin training ultimately make it through," said Arizona Canine Cognition Center Director Evan MacLean. That means that major amounts of money are going to the dogs with no return on investment.For those who rely on these pets to live their lives, they are forced to wait sometimes up to two years or more."If that were any other kind of medical procedure it would be, we would think about this as a horrible thing," MacLean explained. "I need this operation and there's a two-year waiting list to get it. So, we would do something about that. So we want to do something about that with the dogs, too." Shelby Smith spoke to the University of Arizona on the impact an assistance dog has had on her life with a disability."Picasso to me is more than independence ... he's my best friend," Smith said. "He's someone I lean on ... depend on to get through daily challenges that comes with having a disability." MacLean said that stories like Smith's pushed him to really ramp up his research."For a long time, we've been interested in whether you can predict which dogs will become good working dogs based on aspects of their psychology or their cognition," MacLean said. Their next step is to determine if they can see these skills in puppies as well as testing a dog's genetic makeup. 2097

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Pasco, Fla. woman was arrested after deputies say she was passed out drunk at the wheel of a parked car with a 5-year-old child in the back seat.20-year-old Sarah Nisse was found after the girl answered a phone call from her father.He called the 5-year-old via FaceTime and was able to see where the vehicle was parked.He found the car at 2509 Success Dr. and immediately removed his daughter from the vehicle and called 911.Fire rescue arrived and tried to administer aid to Nisse. She didn't say anything but raised a middle finger at them. When deputies arrived, Nisse appeared to be 'heavily intoxicated' and was taken to the Medical Center of Trinity.She blew a .276 and .272 three hours after the incident.Deputies say that without proper supervision, the 5-year-old was at risk of possible injury or death due to a large pond being next to where the car was parked, as well as due to the fact that Nisse was driving while under the influence.She was arrested for child neglect, violation of probation and DUI. She was on probation for willful child neglect in reference to a case in 2015 where she had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old juvenile. 1187
