The president of a California university is apologizing to one of his professors and her family after they were allegedly racially profiled on campus.In a thread on social media, Danielle Morgan outlined how officers escorted her brother to her house on campus at Santa Clara University over the weekend. She is an assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences.Morgan recalls that her brother came to the door and said the officers needed her to come out and “vouch for me.” Morgan told CNN she was asked to produce ID to prove who she was and where she lived.“I asked what the issue was and he (the officer) said my brother was ‘in the bushes’ and it was ‘suspicious’ and they thought he may have been homeless. I asked why I needed to show ID at my own home. He said ‘Well, it's not your home. The University owns it,’” Morgan said. 852

The pandemic is having an impact on the mental health of many Americans. Young people are particularly feeling this with changes in learning and missed milestones.In a new survey of 14 to 24-year-olds, Mental Health America found 24% of those surveyed think training adults would help with their mental health challenges.About 47% said they want to learn more about how to help their own mental health, which is what one new program developed during the pandemic is trying to do.“What we're hearing is that young people are depressed, that they have very little hope for the future, and they want skills to be able to help themselves and their peers,” said Martin Rafferty, CEO and founder of Oregon-based nonprofit Youth Era.The program Uplift by Youth Era is a five-day event and training that is free for young people.“It’s giving them the skillsets to take a look around in their community and say I can be a part of change. The Phoenix Police Department says the ex-boyfriend of Kiera Bergman, a 19-year-old woman who has been missing since August 4, has been arrested for identity theft.Police say 23-year-old Jon Clark was being questioned in relation to Bergman’s disappearance when police found several items with the personal identification of other people as well as items indicating forgery in his vehicle.Clark was arrested Friday and booked into jail for 22 counts of aggravated identity theft and two counts of forgery.Police have given no indication that this arrest connects Clark to Bergman’s missing person’s case.Bergman was last seen at her home near on Aug. 4.According to police, Bergman never returned home after leaving and has not been seen or heard from since.Kiersten Bragg, Bergman's mother, says her daughter went to work that Saturday morning, and Clark picked her up but she never made it back to their apartment.Police still say her disappearance is considered suspicious, and they are still asking anyone with any information on her disappearance to call 480-WITNESS. 1085

The jittery stock market is once again heading south.The Dow dropped 327 points, or 1.3%, on Thursday, with selling accelerating after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin backed out of a conferencein Saudi Arabia. The index had been down 471 points at one point.Tech stocks fell sharply, sending the Nasdaq tumbling 2.1%. Netflix declined 5%, while Facebook and Amazon lost about 3% apiece.Stock market volatility is back on Wall Street. Mnuchin said it was a joint decision with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. An administration official told CNN that no other government officials will attend the event in Mnuchin's place.The news adds to rising global uncertainties, including concerns about Italy's budget and a plunge in China's stock market.David Kotok, chief investment of Cumberland Advisers, said he believes Thursday's market slide was driven more by concerns about Italy and China."But Mnuchin doesn't help things," said Kotok.Mnuchin's announcement points to elevated tensions between the United States and Saudi Arabia over the disappearance of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.Saudi Arabia has threatened to retaliate against potential US sanctions.
