Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell says he would not resign if pressured to do so by President Donald Trump."No," Powell answered simply, when asked Friday morning during a panel at the annual American Economics Association conference alongside former Fed chairs Janet Yellen and Ben Bernanke.Trump has repeatedly criticized Powell for continuing to tighten monetary policy, saying on Twitter that it's the "only problem" with the economy. It's unclear whether presidents legally can fire Fed chairs, who they appoint for four-year terms.Powell said Trump had not directly expressed dissatisfaction to him.Powell added that he has no meeting scheduled with Trump. White House aides had floated the idea of inviting the former investment banker to sit with the President in person to allay Trump's concerns."Meetings between presidents and fed chairs do happen, but nothing's been scheduled," Powell told moderator Neil Irwin, an economics reporter for the New York Times. 986

From cameras to sensors and audible tones, more and more new vehicles offer safety technology to drivers. However, car buyers have mixed reviews about the features.“They are much faster at detecting incidents or possible crashes than people are,” says Kelly Funkhouser with Consumer Reports of safety technology in vehicles.Consumer Reports found 60 percent of car owners who have this type of safety technology say it’s helped them avoid a crash.“Two years ago, there were just a handful of vehicles where this was standard equipment as of last year, but that number went to almost 50 percent of vehicles that were coming equipped with automatic emergency breaking,” Funkhouser says.As much as people love these features, there are downsides.“Unfortunately, some of these sensors are quite costly if you do get into an accident,” Funkhouser says.According to AAA, minor crashes can cost ,000 in extra repair costs due to pricey sensors. When it comes to the safety features, new car owners find lane assist warnings annoying. However, the backup cameras and automatic braking are among the most popular features.Consumer Reports recommends never skimping on cars that have safety features.“If there is any way you can prevent an accident or even reduce the impact of an accident, these technologies are fantastic and will keep getting better every year,” Funkhouser says. 1385

Google is expanding its mental health screening tools.Dr. David Feinberg, the head of Google Health, calls the impact of the pandemic a perfect storm that's led to more psychological issues.“So, we're seeing a lot of people coming to Google with questions about anxiety, about depression, and even if we go pre-COVID,” said Feinberg. “We had 48 million Americans suffering from anxiety disorders. We've now seen that increase.”According to the latest information from the Census Bureau, that increase has been drastic. It found one in three Americans are showing signs of clinical depression or anxiety, or both. Here's how the new online tool works: If you Google search “anxiety,” a panel will appear on the right side of your browser. It has information on disorders and a link to “take a self-assessment.”After answering seven simple questions, you'll be given a score ranging from minimal to severe signs of anxiety.“So, there's a lot of resources for people to stay connected, to find out if they're suffering, and to get help when appropriate,” said Feinberg. Feinberg says that's the most important thing is get help if you need it.This is Google’s third 1174
