SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old boy suspected of stealing a vehicle and leading police in San Diego on a short pursuit was hospitalized Monday evening with a broken hip after being ejected or jumping from the vehicle and being run over before the Jeep struck a traffic signal pole.Officers received information about a 2019 Jeep Compass stolen from the 3800 block of Fairmount Avenue about 7:20 p.m. and spotted the vehicle speeding and attempted to stop it near 54th Street and University Avenue, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.The driver fled southbound on 54th Street and ran red lights, prompting the pursuit to be terminated, Buttle said.The suspect continued southbound on 54th Street, crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed in the Chollas Creek area into a traffic signal, where he was either ejected or tried to get out of the Jeep before it stopped and was run over, pinning his arm under a tire, Buttle said.Firefighters freed the suspect from under the Jeep and he was taken to a hospital with a fractured hip.Two 16-year-old girls in the Jeep were taken to a hospital to be evaluated, Buttle said. 1161

SAN DIEGO — Home construction in the city of San Diego increased in 2019, but is still far off pace to meet the region's high demand for housing.The findings come in a report released Tuesday by the city's planning department.It shows that in 2019 the city issued 5,221 permits for new housing units, up from 3,895 the year before. Still, that's way off pace for any sort of building activity that could help lower the cost of housing. Consider that the city only issued permits for 42,275 housing permits from 2010 to 2019, which is 48 percent of its goal of 88,096. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A drunken driver who crashed into a Lyft vehicle at high speed on state Route 163 in Balboa Park -- killing one passenger and injuring the other two occupants -- pleaded guilty Wednesday to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. Alondra Selena Marquez, 22, of San Diego, faces up to 13 years and four months in prison, with sentencing slated for Sept. 24 at the downtown San Diego courthouse. Prosecutors say Marquez had a .25 percent blood alcohol content -- more than three times the legal limit -- at the time of the March 23 crash that killed San Francisco resident Giao Pham. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 45-year-old man got into an argument with two males at the entrance to an alley in San Diego's Valencia Park neighborhood and was shot in the back Friday evening.The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. at the entrance to an alley at 53rd Street and Imperial Avenue, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said.The man was standing with his girlfriend when the two males walked up, argued and one male fired several shots at the victim, hitting him once in the back, Heims said. The suspects fled the scene in separate vehicles, one of them red.Paramedics took the victim to a hospital where his injury was not believed life-threatening, Heims said.Gang detectives were investigating, Heims said. 738
