BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- China firmly adheres to peaceful development and a defensive defense policy, Defense Minister Chang Wanquan said at a reception celebrating the 89th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Sunday, a day ahead of China's Army Day.

"Judicial power is an important component of national sovereignty," said the statement, adding, "People's courts will actively exercise jurisdiction over China's territorial waters, support administrative departments to legally perform maritime management duties, equally protect the legal rights of Chinese and foreign parties involved and safeguard Chinese territorial sovereignty and maritime interests."

Chang expressed the hope that the two sides could properly deal with differences, so as to contribute to regional peace and stability.

"With better transmission efficiency and larger coverage, the new project, with other power stations also under construction, will for sure improve the power supply in Egypt," the Chinese young man said with a pride smile.

In meeting with Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai, Wang Yi said China appreciated Thailand's part in promoting the development of China-ASEAN ties, saying that the two sides should work together to upgrade the China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership, taking the opportunity of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relationship.
