EL CAJON (CNS) - Murder and attempted murder charges were filed Friday against a man accused of shooting two men in El Cajon earlier this year, killing one of them.Roberto Hernandez, 26, faces 59 years to life in state prison if convicted of the charges stemming from the March 20 shooting that killed James Bowens, 20, and injured another 20-year-old man, both El Cajon residents, according to Deputy District Attorney Clayton Carr.Police said officers responded just before 8 p.m. to reports of gunshots in the area of 700 Applewood Drive. (KGTV) - A possible vehicle break-in led to a deadly shooting in the East County early Sunday.El Cajon Police received a report of shots fired just after 1 a.m. near West Chase Avenue in El Cajon. Police said a homeowner was woken up by the sound of his dogs barking in the 1100 block of Mona Place and looked outside to see someone trying to break into his vehicle.The homeowner retrieved his handgun and went outside to confront the 32-year-old suspect, police said.A confrontation between the two occurred and the homeowner shot at the suspect multiple times, police said, striking him at least once.The suspect then took off in his own vehicle and crashed into the driveway of a nearby home in the 1000 block of West Chase Ave. Officers arrived to find him dead of a gunshot wound.Police have not released the identity of the homeowner or suspect. (KGTV) - A former El Cajon high school teacher is in custody on suspicion of sexually assaulting five young victims and attempting to lure a sixth, including two students, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said Friday.38-year-old Dustin Sniff, also known as Dustin Stevens, is suspected of multiple counts of assaulting a minor, deputies said. Charges include rape by force/fear and oral copulation by force.The alleged victims were between 16 and 22 years old. Sniff is a former teacher at Christian High School, a private evangelical school in El Cajon. None of the assaults happened on campus, according to investigators.A student told 10News Sniff taught Film and Bible classes, and was well liked. The student said Sniff abruptly left the school about two years ago, around the time of the last reported incident.Some of the victims knew Sniff from a website called Model Mayhem, deputies said in a news release.Deputies said anyone who may be a victim of a similar crime or has information about the cases should call the Sheriff's Sex Assault Unit at 858-285-6222. 1106
