SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Navy wife battling cancer is looking forward to a good night's sleep, thanks to the help of United Service Organizations (USO) and Jerome's Furniture.Julie Chadek was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer last year and it has since spread to her spine.“I’ve been home from the hospital for a couple of nights now and have been sleeping on the couch because I was so uncomfortable in our old bed," said Chadek.USO teamed up with Jerome's to get the Chadek's their dream bed."I cried for a while, because you just, you don't see that very often," said Julie. "Knowing that there is still some good is quite amazing."The nearly ,000 bed features an adjustable mattress and therapeutic massage.Julie's doctors have created a new plan of action to target the cancer now in her spine.“There’s still a few more options, we’re not giving up, we’re fighting until there’s no more fight left," said Julie. 930

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A recent study from Volusion ecommerce software shows San Diego has one of the highest percentages of people who work remotely or work from home. Technology has provided flexibility in how and where we do our jobs, but when we consider how to ‘Make it in San Diego,’ we found working remotely can also put money back in your pocket. Ashley Goggins is a prime example and is one of over 8 million people in the United States who work remotely. “I’m a customer success manager for a software company,” says Goggins.Her company is headquartered in Chicago, but Ashley does her job from her living room in San Diego. “I typically wake up around 6:00 in the morning, and my calls start coming in around 6:30,” adds Goggins. “The great part about that is I don’t have to spend time getting ready, eating breakfast right away, or sitting in the car.”Goggins is part of a growing trend. Especially in the employment sectors of management, business, and science where working remotely is a valuable option for some employees. “Many industries that are prevalent in San Diego lend themselves to remote work,” says Kevin Fowler. Kevin Fowler is a writer for Volusion and author of the study. His research shows San Diego is one of the top cities in the nation when it comes to employees working remotely full-time. And for many trying to ‘Make it in San Diego,’ working remotely has its financial benefits. “The peripheral costs of working on location add up to about ,000 per year,” says Fowler.That’s right. A survey from Career Builder found that the simple act of going to work, including wear and tear on your car, gas, fair for the bus or train, lunch, even coffee adds up to about ,300 a year. “I haven’t done the math, but it does cut some costs down,” says Goggins. “I actually just contacted my car insurance company to reduce the amount of miles, so my premium is lower.”Granted, there are some negatives associated with working remotely. For some, the opportunity for promotion only comes with working onsite or at least collaborating with upper management. And then, there is also the simple need for face-to-face contact.“Sometimes, I go days at a time without seeing another human being, so I do make an effort to get out of the house at least once a day to go to a coffee shop and meet up with friends,” says Goggins.Working remotely has become such a popular trend. Yet, another study from Ivy League professors found some employees were willing to take an 8% pay cut for the opportunity to work from home. 2545

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego County leader is asking the state to look into what she calls the disproportionate placement of sexually violent predators in rural East County. In a letter, Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Dianne Jacob asked Attorney General Xavier Becerra to investigate the placements. Jacob says nine out of the 12 predators, dubbed the "dirty dozen" by Jacob, released in the San Diego region have been housed in the communities of Campo, Boulevard and Jacumba Hot Springs. RELATED: Placement hearing to be held for 'bolder than most' rapist“Rural East County should not be treated as a convenient dumping ground for SVPs,” said Jacob. “In their attempt to quietly house these monsters in our county, state officials are exploiting small, rural communities that often lack the resources and clout to challenge these placements.”The letter comes as a judge gets ready to consider a state proposal to put Alan Earl James, another sexually violent predator, in Jacumba Hot Springs. San Diego (KGTV) - A San Diego man claims San Diego County Sheriff deputies roughed him up in jail and the incident was caught on camera.He’s calling the deputies' actions an abuse of power.“I’m actually pissed,” said Joshua Strode. “I’m actually very angry.”San Diego State University police arrested Strode back in June for being drunk in public, something he denies.Strode was taken to San Diego Central Jail. He claimed he was inside the first-floor intake area when deputies came at him from all directions.“I kept on trying to tell them, 'You’re hurting me badly, please stop," he said.A video given to Team 10 from inside the jail shows Strode’s encounter with law enforcement. 692
