Airbnb is doing its part to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. In a press release, Airbnb said they are banning all bookings for entire-home listings in the U.S. and Canada that occur over the Halloween weekend to protect the public's health. If guests previously booked to stay somewhere that fits that criteria, Airbnb said the company would reimburse them."The great majority of guests are respectful of our hosts' homes and neighbors, and we understand that this initiative will disrupt many one-night reservations that might not have led to parties," Airbnb said in the press release. "This action is designed to help protect our hosts and the communities they live in. We will also be introducing additional measures to complement the two-night minimum in an effort to stop as many large gatherings as possible."Airbnb said anyone who violates the policy could have their account removed or face legal action. 927

Adam Coy has officially been fired by Columbus Police, a week after an incident where he shot 47-year-old Andre Hill multiple times. One day after last week’s incident, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther directed police to strip Coy of his duties, but Coy would remain on payroll and would be afforded a hearing due to the city's contract with the police union. On Monday, his firing was formalized.Coy did not attend the hearing on Monday, opting to have members of the local police union argue his case.Meanwhile, the Franklin County, Ohio, Coroner’s Office said on Monday that Hill died from “multiple” gunshot wounds. The state's attorney general is now investigating for possible criminal charges. "(Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigations) will conduct a complete, independent and expert investigation – a search for the truth. We conduct more officer involved shooting investigations than any agency in the State of Ohio, and will pursue every lead without favoritism or regard to politics," Ohio AG Dave Yost said.Hill was holding a cellphone at the time of his death, based on a review of one of the responding officer's body-worn camera footage. Hill walked toward the officer with a cell phone in his left hand while his right hand was not visible.Attorney Ben Crump and the Hill family issued a joint statement reacting to Monday's announcement. "The Columbus Department of Public Safety made the correct decision to terminate Officer Adam Coy today. We look forward to reviewing all the bodycam footage and determining everything that happened leading to Andre Hill’s death. We need to redefine a relationship between police and communities of color in which it doesn’t turn deadly for a Black person with a cell phone to encounter a law enforcement officer," the statement read.Officers were called to the area for a report of a man sitting in an SUV, continually turning on and off the vehicle, police said.According to the Columbus Dispatch, Coy was involved in an excessive force complaint that resulted in the City of Columbus paying a ,000 payout. Coy was suspended for 160 hours for the 2012 incident, but kept his job.The shooting was the second time a citizen was killed by law enforcement within the city. Earlier this month, Casey Goodson Jr. was shot and killed by Franklin County Sheriff Deputy Jason Meade. Authorities said that investigators recovered a weapon on the scene, but a family attorney told CNN that Goodson was holding a sandwich at the time of the shooting. No charges have been filed in that case, and investigation is still ongoing.During the shooting death of Goodson, deputies were not wearing body-worn cameras. When Coy shot Hill, Ginther said Coy did not turn on his camera until after the shooting. Ginther said that the body-worn cameras worn by Columbus Police have a 60-second “lookback” feature that captured video of the shooting. The lookback feature does not capture the audio."The Division invested millions of dollars in these cameras for the express purpose of creating a video and audio record of these kinds of encounters. They provide transparency and accountability, and protect the public, as well as officers, when the facts are in question," Police Chief Thomas Quinlan said.On Monday, Ginther suggested other officers could face disciplinary action for not having their body camera turned on at the time of shooting, and for not providing aid to Hill. 3423

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - When students in one East County school district start their school year, they may have the option to be in a learning pod, organized by the district. When Gov. Newsom's orders pointed to distance learning for local schools, Alpine Union School District's superintendent, Rich Newman, says the feedback from parents came quickly. Though the district took pride in their virtual classes, parents were worried."Parents had deep feelings of concern for the future of their children and their potential learning loss from distance learning," said Newman. Those specific concerns are familiar ones: access to computers and internet access, students' social isolation and distractions, and parents' work schedules. So officials in the school district, which includes nearly 1,700 students from pre-K to 8th grade, came up with a plan."We are replicating the normal school day our students would normally be in," said Newman.Newman says they'll be offering up space for free at schools, from gyms and classrooms to outdoor spaces for 12-student learning pods. Each pod will be supervised by one parent every day. The parents would divvy out their shifts within the group."Parents have to fill out a facilities use agreement, just like a sports league ... that would allow them to go on campus. They'll have to sign a waiver," said Newman. The district won't be just providing space. Students will have access to computers and tutors, both in-person and online. Newman says the pods will follow state COVID-19 guidelines, including social distancing and mandatory masks for students in the 3rd grade and higher."This allows our parents to return to work, and know that their child has a safe to be and support for their distance learning," said Newman. The district also plans to expand its current before-and-after-school care into a 10-and-a-half hour day, with similar learning pods. Between the two programs, they hope to reach 100% of families needing help."We hope to leave our students and parents with a sense of normalcy ... and ensure there will be no loss of learning ... So far, the response has been overwhelming," said Newman.Class is set to begin August 24.Newman says the district has consulted with attorneys who say the district's plans do fall within state guidelines. In a statement, a county spokesperson says, "Our current understanding is that this type of program would not be allowed under current state guidance. However, we are seeking clarity from the State on this issue." 2520

Amazon already owns your doorstep. Now it wants to secure the inside of your home. The company is buying Ring, maker of security cameras and internet-connected doorbells. It pairs nicely with Amazon Key, a smart doorlock and security camera service that allows Amazon delivery people to drop packages inside of people's homes.Amazon Key works in tandem with a security camera that records every in-home delivery. Ring offers similar services, recording live videos of customers' doorsteps and homes, then sending the videos to their smartphones.  558
