BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Saturday met separately with several foreign leaders in the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing.    The foreign leaders included President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Lee Myung bak, President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar, Uzbek President Islam Karimov, and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.     The leaders all attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, held in the National Stadium in north Beijing on Friday night. BEIJING, May 21 -- China's tax authority has cut or waived a tax levy, offered a tax refund, and reiterated the tax concession on donations related to the earthquake in Sichuan Province as means of helping to support victims.     Losses suffered by companies and individuals due to the 8.0-magnitude earthquake can be tax deductible, the State Taxation Administration said in a notice on its Website.     As of 6pm yesterday, the number of people killed by the devastating quake has reached 40,075 while 247,645 people have been injured and there were still 32,361 people unaccounted for.     The supplies donated by overseas governments, individuals and companies are exempted from import taxes (including Valued Added Tax and Customs Duties), the tax authority said.     People whose tax-paid autos or ships have been destroyed in the quake can apply for a refund of Vehicles and Vessels Usage Tax for the period from the date they were destroyed until the end of the year. Normally auto and ship tax is prepaid at the beginning of the year. Donations that exceed the amount are not tax deductible.     For individuals, donations that are less than 30 percent of their income, can be tax deductible. The donations must be made through domestic non-commercial social entities or government bodies. Individuals' donations made directly to the quake victims are not tax deductible.

PYONGYANG, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The torch relay in Pyongyang will enhance friendship between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and China, the DPRK's Olympic chief said Monday.     The event will promote the cooperation and exchanges in sports between the two countries, and will show their traditional friendship to the world, said Park Hak Seon, chairman of the National Olympic Committee of the DPRK.     The official made the remarks at a reception held by the Chinese Embassy to welcome the Beijing Olympic Flame to Pyongyang.     The reception was attended by senior DPRK officials, including Yang Hyong Sop, vice president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, and Park Kwan O, chairman of the People's Committee of Pyongyang, foreign diplomats in Pyongyang and famous DPRK athletes.     Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK, expressed thanks to various departments of the DPRK for their hard work in preparing for the torch relay in Pyongyang.     He said he sincerely appreciates the strong support from the people of the DPRK to the Chinese people.     The Olympic torch which will be used to carry the sacred flame in Pyongyang was displayed at the reception.     The torch relay will be held on April 28 in Pyongyang, the 18thleg of its global trip. DUSHANBE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Kyrgyz counterpart Kurmanbek Bakiyev on Thursday agreed to promote cooperation of the two countries in various fields.     During a meeting with Bakiyev here, Hu said "The consensus reached between us during my visit to Kyrgyzstan last year to fully deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas has been orderly put into practice, and bilateral ties have made new progress."     China attaches great importance to its ties with Kyrgyzstan and regards Kyrgyzstan as an important partner in Central Asia, he added.     Hu urged the two sides to well implement bilateral cooperative programs in the building of roads and railways, and to promote business at land ports to deepen bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The SCO, founded in 2001, groups China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.     After paying a state visit to Tajikistan and attending the SCO summit, Hu would fly to Turkmenistan on Thursday night. He has already visited the Republic of Korea, the first-leg of his three-nation tour in Asia.
