The 65-year-old has been on the run since March when authorities in South Carolina secured fraud indictments against him.Court filings say the company provided cash advances to veterans and others that would then be repaid by their pensions. Traders weren't told the advances had interest rates that could top 240%. HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — A Merrol Hyde Magnet High School senior recalled what she saw in the hallway after a chemical flash fire occurred during a science experiment.Sophia Sisler said she was in the hallway working on an art display Wednesday morning when she heard screaming."A student started coming downstairs into the nurse's office. They were crying and shaking, kind of freaking out a little bit and some of them had soot on them. They were really red, they had red spots on their faces and arms and that sort of thing," she recalled.Sisler would soon learn about the chemical accident that caused a Science teacher and 11 other students to be sent to hospitals. Several suffered second degree burns."A couple had open blisters on their legs already. I think they were all just really panicked from what happened," she said.Sisler said the science department has done the science experiment in the past without any problems. After the accident, she said teachers escorted those exposed to the nurse’s office until emergency crews arrived."They were clinging onto the teachers really and they were crying and they were terrified," she said.She wanted people on social media not to blame the teacher for this accident. It's something that has been done in the past. "He looked them all in the eye while he was actively burning and holding his burn spot and saying 'it’s going to be OK, you’re going to be OK' and he got them all out of the room unbelievably fast and he put all of the students before his own life," Sisler said.The senior said she hopes all the students and teacher fully recover. 1655

Georgia's Republican Secretary of State says that despite voting for President Donald Trump and donating to his campaign, Trump threw him "under the bus" by attempting to overturn the results of the presidential election in the state.In an opinion piece for USA Today, Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger criticized Trump for refusing to "accept the facts" in narrowly losing the state to President-elect Joe Biden.In his opinion piece, Raffensperger noted that despite the circumstance, Georgia's elections went fairly smoothly, noting record numbers of mail-in and early voting and "minuscule" wait times on election day. But he said that all changed when Trump began publicly undermining trust in Georgia's elections."Elections are the bedrock of our democracy," Raffensperger wrote. "They need to be run fairly and, perhaps more important, impartially. That's not partisan. That's just American. Yet some don't seem to see it that way."As the head of elections in Georgia, Raffensperger has found himself at the center of attention since election day. Days after the polls closed, Raffensperger called for an unprecedented statewide audit of the presidential election in the state, which required a hand recount of election results.While the audit did find a few thousand votes for Trump that had not been previously counted, the new votes only represented a small change in the final tally. Georgia has certified its election, though the Trump campaign has filed for a machine recount of votes, which is unlikely to change the final tally.All the while, Trump has continued to cast doubt on the electoral process in the state — and Raffensperger says he's been personally pressured by fellow Republicans to find ways to exclude legally-cast ballots. He also says both he and his family have faced threats in the face of the recounts.In his piece, Raffensperger skewered both Republicans and Democrats who attempted to discredit the election process in the state."An onslaught of fake news and unrepentant disinformation threatened to tear the fabric of our country apart," he wrote. "People on both sides of the aisle generated controversies out of nowhere to stir up trouble."In particular, Raffensperger criticized Trump for "adopting the playbook" of Stacey Abrams, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate who lost out to Gov. FULLERTON (CNS) - A Compton couple facing criminal charges stemming from a brawl at Disneyland that was captured on video that went viral failed to appear in court this week for arraignment.Andrea Nicole Robinson, 40, and her husband, Daman Petrie, 44, were scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, but they did not show up for the hearing, according to court records obtained by City News Service.It's not clear what authorities will do to compel the defendants to appear in court, but there are no more hearings scheduled so far.RELATED: Three people charged in Disneyland brawl that was caught on videoRobinson's 35-year-old brother and co-defendant, Avery Desmond-Edwinn Robinson, is due in court Sept. 30 for a pretrial hearing at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.Avery Robinson faces the most serious charges of the three defendants. He is charged with one felony count each of domestic battery with corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury on his girlfriend and assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of criminal threats, along with five counts of battery and four counts of child abuse and endangerment, all misdemeanors.Robinson's sister is charged with four misdemeanor counts of battery for allegedly attacking her brother, his girlfriend and a Disneyland security guard, and a misdemeanor count of assault on her brother's girlfriend. She faces 2 1/2 years in jail if convicted.Petrie is charged with one count of battery on his brother-in-law's girlfriend, who was punched in the face during the July 5 scrum, and faces up to six months in jail if convicted, according to prosecutors.It's unclear what touched off the fight, which broke out in Toontown and sprawled out onto the Main Street in the famous theme park, but several Disneyland visitors tried to stop it, prosecutors said.
