NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio grabbed a roller Thursday and helped paint the words "Black Lives Matter" front of the namesake Manhattan tower of President Donald Trump.De Blasio was flanked by his wife, Chirlane McCray, and the Rev. Al Sharpton as he helped paint the racial justice rallying cry in giant yellow letters on Fifth Avenue in front of Trump Tower."We are liberating Fifth Avenue," de Blasio said. "We are uplifting Fifth Avenue."The NYC Department of Transportation closed off the avenue between 56th and 57th streets around 7 a.m. Thursday in preparation for the painting.The DOT said the block would remain closed to automobile traffic until Sunday, however, the bus lane will be operational sooner.The mural was originally set to be painted on July 2, but was postponed due to "logistics," de Blasio said at the time. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are imposing a 14-day quarantine on incoming travelers from states with a high transmission rate of the coronavirus."We worked really hard to get the viral transmission rate down, and we don't want to see it go up," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "So we are jointly instituting that travel advisory today."The travel advisory will apply to states with two criteria: States that have an infection rate above 10 cases per 100,000 people and states where 10% of the total population test positive. NEW YORK -- Michael Casey is picking up the pieces after some protesters turned violent and destroyed his business, Maxwell’s Bar & Restaurant, in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood“We had to put together a makeshift border so no more looters would come in,” he said.This former New York City firefighter served his community for 13 years. When medical issues forced Casey out of the department, he invested his life savings and built this bar with his friends and family.“My daughter’s first birthday was there,” Casey said. “Her christening was there. It was a real kick to the…it was tough.”Tough, Casey says, both emotionally and financially.Casey says COVID-19 concerns forced him to shut down his business for three months. Without any income, he wasn’t able to pay insurance on his property.“We had to pick and choose what we can pay and what we can’t pay to try to get back up on our feet,” he said. “One of the costs we were not able to incur was our insurance.”After the looting, Casey had to let go of dozens of employees. Now, he’s filing for personal bankruptcy.“We’re done. There’s too much destruction,” he said. “The bills keep piling up.
