Lawmakers in West Virginia did something Monday night that might be a first in American history: impeach an entire state Supreme Court.The West Virginia House of Delegates' impeachment of the justices on the state's Supreme Court of Appeals is an unprecedented move spurred by an escalating scandal in the state's judicial system. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — The La Mesa community has continued to show its strength and resilience. But as we head into the weekend, the city's 7 p.m. curfew continues and some fear there could be more violent riots.Colorful murals now cover La Mesa businesses, destroyed by rioters and looters last weekend. For Kenny Siler, Friday is a big win. "It means the world to be able to come in here," Siler said.He drove his legally blind friends to the Vons grocery store on the first day it reopened. "If there's a good sale, [I get] a whole bunch of Gatorade, and if there's a good chunk of meat I can smoke," he laughed. He's one of the hundreds of La Mesans supporting local businesses as soon as they can. Some shop, some clean, some donate.Next to Vons, California Coast Credit Union still has not reopened. "Both ATM's and inside, everything has been just butchered," the credit union's Sr. VP of Communications, Rene McKee said.They were victims of the riots, but they are also stepping up to help. Friday, the credit union donated ,000 to the La Mesa Business Disaster Recovery Fund. The online Gofundme account continues to grow every hour, far past the original goal of ,000."It's helping to bolster the spirits of the residents here in La Mesa and these small businesses," McKee said. While glimmers of hope begin to flicker, La Mesans still face the reality that what happened last weekend, could happen again. One hundred national guard troops continue to provide added security and prevent property damage, with 100 more on standby in case the situation worsens. For Siler, who is a proud military veteran, he hopes this weekend will bring peace and order. "I support my constitution," Siler said. "Protest. But don't do what you've done," he pointed at the boarded-up walls.The money donated to the La Mesa Business Disaster Recovery Fund will be collected on June 25, 2020. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) — La Jolla's Children's Pool has closed for the season to make way for seal pupping season on the beach's shore.The annual closure went into effect Sunday and will extend until May 15, 2020. During the closure, visitors will not be permitted to use the sheltered beach and, much like the rest of the year, be discouraged from getting too close to the seals.The closure is meant to give harbor seals a safe area to birth and wean their young for the season. Park rangers and lifeguards will monitor the beach to make sure both the public and seals are kept safe.RELATED:Coastal Commission approves permit to protect seals during pupping seasonChildren's Pool sea wall could be deteriorating faster, historical architect saysCity officials began closing the beach for pupping season in 2014, after environmental activists voiced concerns over the safety of young seals born and cared for at the Children's Pool. For years afterward, the city was tied up in litigation over the beach and ability to close it to the public. Critics argued the closures violated the state Coastal Act and the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act.In June 2018, a state appeals court ruled in favor of the city and the ability to close the beach for the season. A year later, the California Coastal Commission renewed a 10-year permit to close the Children's Pool to human access during pupping season.Critics have threatened to take the matter to the state Supreme Court, but the matter hasn't moved that far as of yet.The Children's Pool was opened in 1932 as a space for inexperienced swimmers to enjoy the water safely behind a seawall. Seals started convening on the beach in the 1990s and have since used it for pupping season.The California Coastal Commission has said they believe the water is unsafe due to bacteria levels from the seals and their excrement and encourage visitors to find somewhere else to swim.Officials have also been forced to post signs warning visitors to keep their distance from seals year-round, as the animals could feel threatened if humans come to close to them or their young. 2122

LAS VEGAS (KGTV) -- Friends of a San Diego pilot killed in a Las Vegas plane crash in late October said he had years of experience.Friends identified the pilot as Robert Golo.The passenger, 35-year-old Tyrone Calabar, was also killed.“It was kind of a shock to everybody. We still can’t believe it,” said fellow pilot and Golo’s friend, Flynn Ortiz. “He was so well known and so well respected.”On the morning of October 29th, the plane crashed near Raven Avenue, several miles southwest of the Las Vegas strip. Witnesses told the Clark County Fire Department they saw the plane flying low before hearing the crash.The plane was supposed to be heading back to Gillespie Field.Ortiz said he and Golo’s planes were parked next to each other at Gillespie Field. “I’ve known him for a couple years. I’ve flown with him quite a bit,” Ortiz said.Ortiz said because of his charter license, Golo was under more scrutiny and underwent more inspections. “He owned the airplane that was involved in the accident, another twin-engine airplane, and a small jet. He was very well experienced.”According to Golo’s LinkedIn page, he had operated Air Charter Express since the late 1980s.Both the NTSB and the FAA are investigating. A preliminary report is set to be released in the upcoming days. The official cause of the accident likely will not come for at least a year, according to the NTSB. 1388

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - One of the most elite schools in San Diego has finished investigating accusations of decades of sexual abuse. Investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner broke the story last July when several former students at The Bishop's School came forward about former school employees. The numbers have since doubled. The current tuition at the prestigious private high school is more than ,000 per year. It's been ten months since we reported on how the school was dealing with claims of abuse that spanned three decades. In a transparent move last year, the The Bishop’s School revealed that seven members of its alumni had come forward and described fifteen separate instances of misconduct. Five of those were first-hand accounts of sexual misconduct or boundary violations committed by a school employee.READ: The Bishop's School dealing with multiple claims of sexual misconduct spanning several decadesSince then, The Bishop’s School has been working to complete its investigation. It is now over and the numbers are up. The school report’s, “To date, 14 alumni have come forward to report incidents of sexual misconduct.” The school also reports, "Ten different perpetrators were identified as having engaged in sexual misconduct that would potentially constitute a crime at the time of occurrence." None of the accused are apparently still with the school and at least two are reportedly dead. The school reports that most of the cases were from the 1970s and 1980s. There were no reported cases within the last 20 years.The school declined an interview with 10News, but in a new letter to alumni, it reaffirms its commitment to student safety and apologies to everyone who was affected.The school has turned over ten cases to the San Diego Police Department and says it will notify the community if charges are filed against any of its former school employees. 1894
