(KGTV) - A U.S. Postal Service deliveryman was pinned against his mail van in National City Thursday when a driver having a seizure struck him, witnesses said.Surveillance video shows the sedan crash into the USPS worker as he stood at the back of his van at 2907 Highland Ave. Witnesses jumped into the vehicle to back it up and stop the engine. The postal worker fell to the ground as passersby called for help. National City Police officers arrived and put a tourniquet on one of the postal worker’s legs. He was alert but suffering major injuries, firefighters said. The man was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center.The driver who struck the postal workers has a history of seizures, National City firefighters said. He was also taken to a hospital for evaluation. 798

More than 125,000 new cases of the coronavirus were recorded in the United States on Friday as COVID-19 numbers continue to grow in the nation.According to Johns Hopkins University, there were 125,611 new cases of COVID-19 recorded across the country on Friday. That shatters the previous records that were recorded this week: 121,888 cases on Thursday and 102,000 cases on Wednesday.Johns Hopkins reported Thursday that in the U.S., 1,210 died of the virus, which is the highest death total since Sept. 15.According to the World Health Organization, 2,909 people died in the U.S. on May 2, making it the highest daily death total since the pandemic began.The first COVID-19 case recorded in the U.S. was reported 288 days ago on Jan. 21, according to Johns Hopkins University. 785

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) — Police arrested a 28-year-old Texas resident Thursday in connection with a motel fire and stabbing several days earlier.Police said Jeremiah Dayvon King was arrested after a woman was found stabbed several times outside of a burning motel room just before 3 a.m. Sunday. The fire occurred at the Roadway Inn Motel in the 600 block of Roosevelt Ave. Several guests pulled an unconscious woman from the woman and tried to put out the flames before police arrived. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with burns and multiple stab wounds. She was in stable condition on Thursday.Thursday, King was seen walking in the 300 block of Oxford Street in Chula Vista, when he was approached by officers and fled. NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A Nashville ride-hailing driver is using the money she earns to make meals for the homeless.Kerry Wiles is a full-time scientist at the Cooperative Human Tissue Network at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.When Wiles was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018, she made a bucket list that included driving for Uber and Lyft."I thought 'I'm going to make a bucket list of everything I've wondered about' and this was on it," said Wiles.Within a couple days, Wiles knew she liked the gig."What I found is I really like talking to the people. I like meeting them and sharing my favorite spots in Nashville," she said.But Wiles also discovered quickly that Nashville's homeless population is sizable and growing."As I was driving around I would notice the same people in the same spots and I noticed a lot of new homeless," she said.A week into it, Wiles began making meals for the homeless."If I have a rider with me, they're kind of amazed," she said.Wiles uses the fares and tips she receives to pay for the lunches. She hands them out during her shifts."If you leave a tip I match it... everything I need to make the lunches is basically subsidized by my tips and rides," she said.Wiles has her route down to a science now. On Saturdays and Sundays, she typically hands out more than 100 lunches.This summer, a customer started to help after hearing about what she does."It's the best thing in the world," said Ryan Caldwells. "It's a humbling experience. When I was a bellhop, I would see people freezing and under bridges and it just didn't sit well in my soul.""We started talking about his goals and dreams and he said he wanted to work with the homeless. I love having his help. He's energetic and an amazing 24-year-old kid," Wiles said.Recently, the duo started writing down the shoe sizes of people in the homeless community to get them boots for the colder months.WTVF's Hannah McDonald asked, "How do you fit this all into your week?""What's important you fit into your week. You just have to determine what's important.
