WASHINGTON — Presidential adviser Jared Kushner says President Donald Trump wants to help Black Americans, but they have to “want to be successful” for his policies to work.Kushner added that Trump administration policies will help Black people overcome problems that the community has been "complaining about.""President Trump’s policies are the policies that can help people break out of the problems that they’re complaining about, but he can’t want them to be successful more than they want to be successful," Kushner said.Democratic Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia accused Kushner of “casual racism.”Former Democratic National Committee Chair Donna Brazile says Kushner is “talking to folks who have suffered and endured systemic racism and historic tokenism.”White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany says “internet trolls” took Kushner’s words out of context. 872

WASHINGTON - President Trump signed 4 executive orders Friday afternoon which all aim to lower the cost of prescription drugs for Americans. The first executive order will require medical facilities to pass along discounts they receive on insulin and EpiPens to consumers. The second order will allow for the importation of prescription drugs from Canada and other countries. The third order aims to eliminate the "middle man" in prescription drug sales. "Nobody even knows who they are. But the middle men are making a fortune,” President Trump said Friday. The fourth executive order strives to bring Medicare’s drug prices more in-line with prices in other countries.Florida's Governor, Ron DeSantis, joined the press conference, along with administration representatives and Americans who have diabetes and other medical conditions.During Friday's event, President Trump said he and his administration has secured 90 percent of the world's supply of remdesivir, which has proven to be a reliable treatment option for Covid-19. These efforts were initially announced in early July by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.Reducing drug prices has been an ongoing effort of the Trump administration. In 2018, the president signed two pieces of legislation into law on Wednesday that aimed to inform consumers about drug prices. Both measures, the Know the Lowest Price Act and the Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act, aim to end the drug industry's so-called gag orders of pharmacists, which prevent them from discussing cheaper price options with consumers. In 2019, A federal judge nixed a regulation that was a centerpiece of the Trump administration's efforts to bring down drug prices.US District Judge Amit Mehta of the District of Columbia vacated the Department of Health and Human Services' rule that would have required drug makers to include their list prices in TV ads, saying the agency had overstepped its authority."No matter how vexing the problem of spiraling drug costs may be, HHS cannot do more than what Congress has authorized," Mehta wrote at the time of the ruling in July 2019. "The responsibility rests with Congress to act in the first instance."President Donald Trump has been unable to land the big deal with Congress to curb drug costs.Democrats, including Joe Biden, are pushing a much more ambitious plan to empower Medicare to negotiate prices.Friday's orders come at a time when the pharmaceutical industry is racing to create a Covid-19 vaccine. 2498

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Vista Thursday on suspicion of making terrorist threats against a north San Diego County campus, Oceanside Police said Friday. The Mission Vista High School student allegedly made the threat on Snapchat, posting “Don’t go to school tomorrow because the cleansing will commence,” according to investigators. Other students saw the post and reported it to school officials, who contacted police. The Vista Unified School District sent an automated message to parents to notify them about the threat. "In this situation the systems we have in place worked. A student saw something and said something. Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about school safety, and encourage them to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior or information they may have that jeopardizes their safety and that of others," said Lisa Contreras, VUSD Director of Communications.Contreras told 10News that the alleged threat did not target a specific campus or individual. Oceanside Police said the student did not have access to weapons. No one was hurt. 1119

WASHINGTON (AP) — Newly ascendant Democrats are promising congressional action on gun control amid a rash of mass shootings, including a late-night assault at a California bar that killed 12 people.Measures including expanded background checks and a ban on assault-style weapons are likely to reach the House floor when Democrats retake control after eight years of Republican rule."The American people deserve real action to end the daily epidemic of gun violence that is stealing the lives of our children on campuses, in places of worship and on our streets," said Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, the Democratic leader who is running for a second stint as House speaker.Pelosi vowed to push for a range of actions to stem gun violence, including restrictions on high-capacity magazines and a measure allowing temporary removal of guns from people deemed an imminent risk to themselves or others. The measures could win approval in the Democratic-controlled House next year but will face opposition from the Republican-controlled Senate and the White House, where President Donald Trump has promised to "protect the Second Amendment."Still, gun control advocates believe they have the political momentum to make guns a central issue next year. The political calculus on guns is changing, said Democratic Rep. Ted Deutch, whose Florida district includes the Parkland high school where 17 people were killed in February."We saw it start on Tuesday and we're going to see it accelerate in January," he said. THOUSAND OAKS MASS SHOOTING: 1547

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A backyard workshop in Vista caught fire Sunday afternoon, according to Vista Fire officials. Neighbors said they saw thick black smoke towering into the sky and heard almost a dozen explosions.Neighbor John Ploetz said it sounded, "like a bomb, people up the street heard it.""It takes a minute you know, your brain goes oh it's probably fine, or he's welding you know and then I see there's flames, and no firemen here, and the fence is on fire, I better call 9-1-1," Ploetz said he grabbed his garden hose and worked to contain the fire. He wet down nearby foliage and put out small spot fires on the outside of the fence.Fire officials said the fire started around 12:32 p.m. and arrived at the home in the 1000 block of Ora Avo Drive in minutes. Ploetz said what he did was something anyone would do and he was concerned the fire would spread to other homes nearby. He was shocked when a pine tree burned up in seconds, "it just whoosh! Went up like a torch, it was loud, that was before the firemen got here."The workshop contained propane tanks, and tools for metal art that the homeowner creates as a hobby. The family was at church when the fire started and were thankful no one was hurt. Among the valuables they lost were three boats and a motor home.Firefighters are still investigating the cause. 1340
