SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Navy wife battling cancer is looking forward to a good night's sleep, thanks to the help of United Service Organizations (USO) and Jerome's Furniture.Julie Chadek was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer last year and it has since spread to her spine.“I’ve been home from the hospital for a couple of nights now and have been sleeping on the couch because I was so uncomfortable in our old bed," said Chadek.USO teamed up with Jerome's to get the Chadek's their dream bed."I cried for a while, because you just, you don't see that very often," said Julie. "Knowing that there is still some good is quite amazing."The nearly ,000 bed features an adjustable mattress and therapeutic massage.Julie's doctors have created a new plan of action to target the cancer now in her spine.“There’s still a few more options, we’re not giving up, we’re fighting until there’s no more fight left," said Julie. 930

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man involved in a DUI hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a young boy in the South Bay started his sentencing hearing Wednesday for violating federal immigration laws.Constantino Banda Acosta, a Mexican national who had previously been deported from the U.S. at least 15 times in the past, has been in federal custody since March over federal criminal re-entry charges.He was transferred to federal custody after charges against him stemming from a 2017 crash were dismissed.Banda faced charges in the May 6, 2017, crash in San Ysidro that sent young Lennox Lake to the hospital with serious injuries, including head trauma.Banda was initially charged with drunk driving and hit-and-run after authorities said he ran a stop sign at Dairy Mart Road and slammed his pickup truck into the Lake family’s car as they were heading home from a Disneyland trip.Banda left the scene but was arrested about two miles away after Border Patrol agents spotted his damaged truck parked on a street, police said.San Diego police Officer Michael Muniz testified in the first trial that Banda's blood-alcohol content measured .151 and .152.Following a mistrial, a judge dismissed the case against Banda in March, saying there was no clear evidence that showed he was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.Banda’s lawyers had argued that another man in the truck, Jorge Adame Ariza, may have been driving the truck after a night of drinking with Banda.Adame said Banda got into a fight with another man outside a Chula Vista restaurant before the crash. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local father is recovering from stab wounds after getting attacked by an intruder in his home. The man's 20-year-old son shot and killed that intruder according to San Diego Police. It happened just before 6:30 Tuesday morning at a home in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive in San Carlos. Neighbors heard the violence. "I heard the gunshots, it was like three or four gunshots, then screams for help immediately after," said Denise Rolla. When police got to the home, they found the suspect dead in the pool and the 54-year-old homeowner with stab wounds to the upper body. Police say the homeowner's son shot and killed the intruder, who stumbled out the back and landed in the pool. "I heard what turned out to be the suspect fall into the pool and then a couple minutes later, you could see the blood start to spread out through the pool," said Andrew Grogg, who lives right next door. There are walking paths and Mission Trails Golf Course is located behind the homes which are just southwest of Jackson Drive. Neighbors say they don't have a problem with transients in the area, but police say so far, it appears the 38-year-old suspect is homeless. His name hasn't been released. The family owns a tire shop in La Mesa. They are well known and liked in the community. "They're local business owners in the community. They're great neighbors. They're kind, they're nice," said Grogg. Police say so far, the attack appears to be random. 1472
