SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Extreme temperatures set several records in cities across San Diego County on Saturday.As the region sweltered under the heat, the mercury went soaring. Seven records were set, including:Escondido: 111 degrees (old record was 108 in 1984)Ramona: 112 degrees (old record was 102 in 2006)Alpine: 113 degrees (old record was 110 in 1984)El Cajon: 114 degrees (old record was 107 in 1984)Palomar Mountain: 97 degrees (old record was 96 in 1955)Campo: 108 degrees (old record was 104 in 1955)Borrego Springs: 117 degrees (old record was 113 in 1989)Poway unofficially set an all-time record of 113 degrees, but it falls out of the National Weather Services 30-year period of record.Temperatures across the county on Saturday were forecasted to hit as high as 122 while many coastal areas could see high 90s.Saturday into Sunday, overnight temperatures along the coast, inland, and mountain areas will hover in the 70s most of the night, and 90s and 80s in the deserts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Extreme wind and heat is causing a school district along the San Diego coast to close early Friday. The Coronado Unified School District announced Thursday that the district will be on a minimum day Friday as heat reaches into the 90s. A minimum day means that all schools will begin at their regular times, but end the day at 12:30 p.m. Friday will mark the second day the district will let out early as heat scorches the region. RELATED: Check today's San Diego County forecastThe Sweetwater Union High School District also announced Thursday that the City of Chula Vista canceled fireworks shows at homecoming games amid the dry weather. “Attention #SUHSD communities @ CPH, HTH, ORH & MOH. The City of CV & SD have cancelled permits for fireworks displays for this Friday’s Homecoming games. We are aware fireworks are a time-tradition, however due to concerns of severe dry weather, we have been advised against them,” the district said in a tweet. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Health experts in San Diego County said Wednesday flu season appears to be at its end, according to the County News Center. The news came after the county released the latest flu numbers. So far this season, 341 people have died from the flu including two new deaths reported over the last week.Those who died ranged in age from one to 101.The high number of deaths this season is a result of an unusually severe flu season, but was also due to better reporting and tracking, County Health and Human Services reported.“It appears that we’re at the end of this flu season,” said Wilma Wooten M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “However, people should continue to take precautions to avoid contracting the virus.”In total, more than 20,000 lab-confirmed flu cases were reported this flu season compared to just over 5,400 the previous year. 880

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Get ready for sunny days at SeaWorld this summer, as the cast of a television favorite comes to San Diego.SeaWorld will host Sesame Street favorites including Elmo, Cookie Monster, and others with themed floats, music, and two performances along the parade route during the Sesame Street Party Parade.The parade will feature 10 massive floats depicting the areas kids know and love, like Mr. Hooper's Store and the Count's Castle.More than 20 dancers will jump and jive alongside Elmo down the parade route, along with a cast of furry friends.During the two mid-parade shows, performers will jump rope, hula hoop, and groove to guests' delight. One show will star Rosita, a Sesame Street favorite known for her guitar skills. The parade can be seen on weekends running from May 25 - Sept. 1 at the park. 830
