It`s the one thing you don`t think will ever happen.A Cumberland County, Pennsylvania couple who wishes to remain anonymous went to the new Gilligan's location on Carslile Pike, only to come back home with the wrong Members First debit card."It was just crazy busy, and we went to pay, it took a little bit but we were understanding, we left not thinking anything of it," added receiver of wrong card. She says in the days following, she and her husband tried to use what they thought was their card for purchases, but it only worked once or twice before it started to decline."We kept putting the pin in and I was like I know my pin, I use it all the time, why isn`t this working?! And it just never dawned one me to check the name just because it looked like my card. Before it declined it, we were able to pump gas with this card," she added. That`s when she and her husband realized something was wrong."We looked down at the card and saw that it wasn`t our name on the card, same bank, same color card, same everything, just not our name," said receiver of wrong card.So they traced their steps back and found out Gilligan's Carlisle pike had their card and luckily, it had not been charged. But what about the money they accidentally charged on the other person's card? We`re trying to make it right and just pay that back the guy because it wasn`t our card, it`s not right," she said.Al Pioppo at the Members First headquarters in Cumberland County says they are doing the right thing."That`s fantastic that they did go the extra step and it makes our job a lot easier, we don`t have to file a dispute for the member and if we can make the other member whole that`s fantastic," said Al Pioppo, Vice President of card services at Members First. He says situations like these happen more often than not."Not everybody`s honest," said Pioppo. And there are things to keep in mind if it happens to you.First, call your bank."We can check into the account, we`ll notify the member and then we can shut down the card immediately so that it can`t be used by anybody," he added."I think it`s so important to be honest. It was an honest mistake and just to be upright, it`s the right thing to do," said receiver of wrong card. 2237

With the Syrian Civil War entering its ninth year this month, the Trump administration is proposing to zero out all new US funding for stabilization efforts in the country. This move comes as the administration is pressing allies to step up their commitment to the ongoing crisis both militarily and financially and as the US is pulling most of its troops out of the country.Members of Congress from both parties, some of whom are re-introducing legislation this week that would prevent taxpayer dollars from going to reconstruction in any areas in Syria controlled by Assad, are calling this a mistake that strengthens the Assad regime and hurts efforts to defeat ISIS."It is a dangerous decision," Democratic Rep. Brendan Boyle of Pennsylvania, one of the sponsors of the No Assistance for Assad Act, said. "It ends up essentially signaling a green light to this mass murderer that he and his awful allies, like the Iranian regime, will be able to just do carte blanche whatever they want."Boyle points out the plan, which is contained in the administration's State Department budget proposal, would hurt efforts to secure the release of American citizens being detained in Syria. As of last summer, the US had spent a total of million in northeast Syria on counter-ISIS stabilization efforts, according to the former anti-ISIS envoy, Brett McGurk. That money had been spent on projects including efforts to get clean water running, supporting schools so that students can return, clearing extensive rubble and demining areas so they are livable for returning Syrians. The State Department did not reply when asked for an update on those figures.Despite this budget proposal, the State Department says that the US remains committed to peace and stability in Syria. They also claimed that there is some money available from previous years in the Relief and Recovery Fund that could possibly be used in Syria, though they did not detail how much."US policy priorities in Syria remain unchanged," said a State Department spokesperson. "We are committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS and al Qaeda, a political solution to the Syrian conflict in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2254, and the removal of all Iranian-led forces in Syria."Critics say plan undermines fight against ISISBut members of Congress and experts argue the plan undermines efforts to defeat ISIS."I consider the war on terror to be generational and it is not gonna be a fight that is just only done by military. There is a military component, but it is also giving people hope and opportunity. And, you know, spending a few hundred million dollars to help stabilize a region to help give people some hope is far cheaper than, you know, releasing missiles, which we are going to have to do, and bombs, which we are going to have to do," Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois said, adding "it is a bad move."More than 5 million in stabilization funds was raised last year by the 15 members of the coalition to defeat ISIS, including 0 million from Saudi Arabia and million from the United Arab Emirates. That is enough to ensure the continuation of ongoing stabilization projects, for now. That money was raised after the US pressed countries to step up their contributions.Critics suggest out that the proposal to eliminate the US contribution will anger allies who had been asked to share the burden. There have been signals that the Trump administration was headed in this direction of curtailing US spending in Syria. Last summer the State Department announced that it would not be using 0 million that had been appropriated for stabilization efforts in the country. The decision came just weeks before the end of the fiscal year, which prevented Congress from taking meaningful action to reverse the decision. It has never been a secret that President Donald Trump wanted to exit Syria -- both militarily and financially. Throughout his time on the campaign trail he promised he would withdraw US troops from the country.Yet lawmakers and allies were stunned and outraged in December of last year when Trump suddenly declared that the US troops would be exiting the country within a matter of months, shortly after a phone call with Turkish President Erdogan. At the time, South Carolina Republican Sen. "I can remember clearly the first time my parents had the talk with my brother and I [sic].And no, we aren’t talking the birds and the bees.My parents were trying to explain to their elementary-aged children that we were different and encounters with the police could be life or death. They told us to address officers like we were taught to speak to all adults: “Yes sir, no sir. Yes mam, no mam.”Don’t make sudden movements.Don’t put our hands in our pockets.Don’t look down or grab anything without permission first.Follow their commands without question. And for reasons I would only understand when I was an adult, it was more important for my brother to do all of these things right. We were taught to know our rights, but under no circumstances should we verbally defend ourselves—no matter what is said by an officer. This conversation was sparked after an officer pulled over my father just a block from our house. The officer asked my father multiple times what he did for a living to afford his car—he owned a construction company.Something similar would happen to my two black cousins and I [sic] years later as teenagers. The officer pulled us over as we were turning onto my street and asked what we were doing in that neighborhood.I told him I lived there. He asked us to get out of the car.At that moment, I remembered ‘the talk’ and the biggest thing my parents emphasized: these encounters may not always be fair but what is most important is to come home."Jessica Porter is a reporter with thedenverchannel.com. 1533

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Rapper Snoop Dogg and singer Stevie Wonder were among those who took the Staples Center stage Thursday to honor rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was gunned down in front of a clothing store he owned in the South Los Angeles community he was dedicated to revitalizing. The ceremony was the first of its kind at Staples Center since a memorial service for Michael Jackson was held there in 2009.Thousands attended the service, which got began about an hour late due to long lines of people trying to get into the arena. The event began with tracks being played from Hussle's album "Victory Lap.'' A highlight reel of Hussle's life was also shown, set to the sound of Frank Sinatra's "My Way.''RELATED: Four shot, one killed during funeral procession for Nipsey Hussle The highlight reel was followed by a performance by singer Marsha Ambrosius and words from Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam."It is a great honor for me and for us to be here to honor a life that will become more famous in death than in life, and the work that his life will produce will go down in history as something that changed the world,'' Farrakhan said. Social media personality Karen Civil read a letter to the crowd from former President Barack Obama. "While most folks look at the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and see only gangs, bullets and despair, Nipsey saw potential. He saw hope,'' Obama wrote. "He saw a community that, even through its flaws, taught him to always keep going.'' Anthony Hamilton and Jhene Aiko also performed songs before several of Hussle's relatives spoke, including his mother, Angelique Smith; his father, Dawit Asghedom; his brother, Samuel Asghedom; and his fiancee, Lauren London.Asghedom, Hussle's older brother, told a story about being impressed upon hearing music Hussle made when he was a teenager. He said he decided that if his little brother could do it, so could he, so he started writing. "I must have wrote for two weeks, and then I threw all that away. I said, OK, it skipped me,'' Asghedom said. "You know this is a real story. I told him from there, `You're special. Just whatever I can do, we believe.'''After telling a few stories, London said she wanted to address Los Angeles directly and asked all the Angelenos in the audience to stand up."Because this pain is really ours. You know, we know what it meant to us,'' she said. "We began as friends, we lost someone very rare to us, and we lost a real one. And we won't ever be the same.''Snoop Dogg had the crowd laughing through much of his speech, including a story about how Hussle once advised him to open his own amusement park called "Doggyland'' with 40-ounce roller coasters. He also said that despite Hussle's affiliation with a faction of the Crips gang, he became a "peace advocate" by making music with musicians associated with other gangs."And for those that knew Nipsey Hussle personally, you knew he had nothing but love for every gang member from Southern California,'' he said. "I don't care what neighborhood you was from.''Before performing, Wonder called for stricter gun laws and said "it is a heartbreak to again lose a member of our family. It's a heartbreak because it's so unnecessary.''Security was tight in and around the arena, contributing to the slow pace of people entering the arena. Los Angeles police noted that "a last-minute rush of mourners caused congestion and brief delays at entrances'' at the arena.Tickets for the event were distributed free through an online system on Tuesday, and they were all claimed within minutes.People who were unable to attend the ceremony were still given a chance to pay respects to Hussle, thanks to a 25-mile procession through South Los Angeles, dubbed a Victory Lap. The procession moved from downtown, south on Vermont Avenue, east on Century Boulevard into Watts, then back west on Century and north on Crenshaw Boulevard, passing by Hussle's The Marathon clothing store.Thousands of people lined the route of the procession at various points, some tossing flowers onto the hearse carrying Hussle's body as it was driven past, and other moving into the street to touch the slow-moving vehicle.A large crowd assembled outside The Marathon store, many people waiting since early in the morning for the procession to pass by.By late afternoon, the crowd became restless at times, prompting surges of people into the street, toppling barricades that had been placed to clear a path for the hearse to pass. At one point, a balloon is believed to have popped, startling the crowd and prompting many people to push into the street. Police formed skirmish lines to push the crowd back, and appeared to restore order without arrests or major injuries.More officers were brought in as the procession neared the location to help keep the street clear. As the procession approached the store around 5:40 p.m., a security team encircled the hearse and walked alongside the vehicle to escort it through the crowd and allow it to keep moving -- at a crawling pace.As the hearse moved into the area, the boisterous crowd became respectfully calm, with spectators lifting their cell phones to snap photos. The convoy repeated came to a stop when people pushed too far into the street, blocking the hearse's path. The 33-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper -- whose real name was ErmiasJoseph Asghedom -- was fatally shot March 31 in front of The Marathon Clothing store. Last week, 29-year-old Eric Ronald Holder Jr., an aspiring rapper and acquaintance of Hussle, pleaded not guilty to one count each of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, along with two counts of attempted murder.Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa Sullivan ordered Holder to be jailed in lieu of million bail while awaiting his next court appearance May 10, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to allow the case against him to proceed to trial.Holder could face a potential life prison sentence if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said Holder got into some type of personal dispute with the rapper outside the store, then left and returned with a handgun. Hussle was shot in the head and body and died at a hospital, according to police and the coroner's office. The police chief declined to discuss the nature of the disagreement between Holder and Hussle but stressed the shooting appeared to be a result of that dispute, not any type of gang rivalry or feud.Hussle transformed himself from a South Los Angeles gang member to a rap musician and channeled his success into efforts to help others stay out of gangs. He bought shoes for students, re-paved basketball courts and provided jobs and shelter for the homeless.Hussle helped renovate a Mid-City roller rink and redeveloped the strip mall that housed his Marathon Clothing shop where he was fatally wounded. On Friday, the Los Angeles City Council is expected to adjourn its regular meeting in honor of Hussle, according to Councilman Marqueece Harris Dawson, a friend of Hussle's. At that same meeting, Harris-Dawson is also expected to introduce a motion to rename the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard as "Ermias `Nipsey Hussle' Asghedom Square.'' 7342
